@cobblestoned. The joker is a preety cool idea, I'd be willing to add that to the game.

As for the scoring system, mercxk had a pretty good system.
http://forum.cyclingnews.com/showpost.php?p=887&postcount=1

Maybe I'd change the values some what, like;
Gts:
Winner - 50 points. (last time we'd pick two, but I'm happy to make it one if if makes if more challenging. Whatever everyone wants.)
Sprinter/climber:15
2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th - 10 per rider regardless of correct order + 5 for each correct order; basically here you nominate 4 riders to complete 2nd to 5th.
Gt stages- 10 winner
2nd to 5th (or we could just nominate winner and leave it at that. ) 3 points each + 3 for correct order.

Stage races sane system;
Winner 25 points
2nd to 5th : 5points + 3 for correct order
Mountains/sprinter; 10 points
Stages; 5 winner
2nd to 5th; 2 points each + 2 correct order

And one day races;
Maybe say 35 for the winner ?
2nd to 5th could be 5 points each and 5 for each correct order.

And then for the joker we could gave a scale of 1-5 ,( 5 rewarded for winner and so on) as to not be out of proportion with the standard scores ?

How far down will the points go regarding placings?

Mmm maybe best if I do an example.

Lets say Paris-nice overall
My winner pick; ll Sanchez
2nd: Evans
3rd: basso
4th: cav
5th: ebh

And let's say the results were;
1. Ll Sanchez
2. Samu
3. Basso
4. Horner
5. Evans

In this example you would get;
25 for picking winner
5 + 5 for having basso and Evans I'n top 5
+3 for correctly guessing basso would come 3rd.
A total of 38 points for gc predictions, that is how we did it more or less last time. But as cobblestone suggested maybe we could have a joker who gathers points for us, as well as maybe 2 or 3 stages I'n pn that could gain you points.

that would be nice. but if the rules will change, we should let merckx know so he'd update the first message in this thread - that the game is re-opened and it has modified rules... and we should send our predictions to someone else, not him...
otherwise i don't think this game will have more then 5 participants - people will get lost in all these messages.

This was a fun game last time and i would definitely play. I actually ran this for a while but i just don't have the time otherwise i would have run it last season.

The reason we chose two riders for each GC, Points, KOM, Young and Team was just incase ie. everybody chooses Conti for tdf victory and he crashes on stage 2 and is out well then where is all the fun? aka a backup pick

If Timmy or whoever there is wants to run it they should just copy and paste the first post of this entire thread into a new one. That way they could edit it all the time.

yeah i agree with this, was my intention to start a new thread if we go ahead.
I really don't care if i run it or not. If someone else wants to they can be my guest, but if no one wants to I don't really mind. It was quite fun, so it's worth doing.

2 picks if fine by me, whatever everyone wants. We could always just have a backup rider, in the event the main pick does crash out.

Of course I am willing to help you if there is a need for that.
For sure I won't be here around the classics, last week of Giro and for le Tour, because I will be there.
I would pick 2 riders + 1 backup for all jerseys/classements, so the Joker can be added without screwing up other classements. On first view we could even go up to 10th place with the stagerace-Joker.

I think generaly doing 2 selected stages in smaller stageraces and 4 in GTs should do it.

We will have to do some simulation and calculation anyway.

Lets hurry, but no fastshot, and realize this. :)
We need a start. Still 5 days to go.

btw, I can add a complete and working layout to here, with strategy, rules and scoreboard. We used it in 2009.
Of course its not perfect. You can never make it perfect for everyone.

With a few changes (that came to my mind) it should work very well.
But it is little bit different from that initial version you used to play here, not completely, but easier to handle.

Just in case we have nothing till Saturday. :D

Ok cool i shall make a thread later today.

just to clarify were going to be doing

GT and stage races (note, obv. GT will be worth more points)
winner (2 picks)
points / mountain selection
2nd to 5th with correct placings getting bonus points.
Stage (pick 1 winner and 2nd to 5th)
GTs- 4 stages
Stage races- 2 stages
Joke for both (but maybe 1-10points for gt and 1-5 for stage races)

And one day races
pick the winner (only one) and 2nd to 5th.

Actual points rewarded will be posted in new thread.

I also think we'll still have the yellow (overall leader, green (most wins) and polka dot (best streak) concept, again will be discussed in thread.

@ cobblestone, any help would be awesome. Just pm any ideas and layouts you have, and we can include them. And pretty much go from there. cheers :)

Well I was just throwing it out there. You're the one organizing the game, put it in if you want to or not.

Wow! What a blast from the past. :p I haven't been on the forums in months, only to find this thread come back up! I could be interested in running another one if people are interested. If not, I'll definitely participate in Timmy's!

Nope merckx I'm happy for you to take the reins, truth be told I'm far too lazy. I was only gonna do it if no one else wanted to :D

the old system allowed new members to join whenever, basically your just at a disadvantage from the races you missed.

But yeah you should be fine.

I am currently at work, but once I get home I will organize a new thread and review the rules we used last time. (To see if anything should be changed).

In the meantime, do you guys want to make suggestions for the prediction schedule?

Is it too late to start with Paris-Nice?
