Oops. Sorry. I was a bit naive in forgetting that many other forum users here aren't in the US like me. ESPN is the biggest sports channel in all of North America, including US, Canada, and Mexico. If I am not mistaken Eurosport is the biggest in Europe, and SBS the biggest in Australia.
Hopefully, that video will load for you guys outside of N. America. It is quite good and worth a couple minutes of watching.
SBS wishes they were the biggest sports channel in Australia.
Fox Sports arguably is on pay tv. Free to air, then Channel 9 or Channel 7 would be.
SBS gets football (soccer) and cycling. They posted more cycling than ever this year, but still cover only a little fragment of what Europe receives.
Channel Ten does mostly motorsports. MotoGP and Formula 1. They have a split deal with channel 7 and shows some AFL. They have been known to show triathlon and surf life saving when it suits their interests, which generally means in the summer.
Channel 7 gets AFL and the V8 Supercar series. Channel 10 use to have the V8s but were outbid by Channel 7 to the tune of a few hundred million dollars.
Channel 9 does Rugby League. It is their staple and biggest view drawer. In the summer they do the cricket. They also since the last winter Olympics have had the IOC contract for the Olympics. They do a very, very poor job at presenting the Olympics as well. Channel 7 sucked, but Channel 9 took sucking to a whole other level.
ABC...netball, obscure basketball games from the NBL, lawn bowls, odd motor sports. The weakest of the lot.
Fox Sports...they cover everything. You pay for it, you can watch it.
So to say SBS are the biggest...not a chance dude. Not even in the top 3. They are an outlier. Fox Sports is the biggest, then Channel 9, Channel 7, Channel Ten, SBS and then the ABC. In that order.
