Stage 9, Sunday. El Ejido-Granada (229kms, the first 30 kms not shown are flat)

Climbs to the well-known Monachil (also called El Purche) plus the Alto del Dornajo, which is the climb up Sierra Nevada through the new, hard road, just going down at El Dornajo. The profile of the climb is my avatar.

The stage finishes uphill at the Alhambra, the majestic moorish palace overlooking the city of Granada.

Climbs:

Stage 10, Tuesday. Valladolid-Valladolid ITT (52kms)

The flat, long ITT every GT needs.

Stage 11, Wednesday. Valladolid-Burgos (156kms)

Flat stage with a short uphill finish at the Burgos Castle, as seen in recent editions of the Vuelta a Burgos.

Stage 12, Thursday. Atapuerca-Cabárceno (211 kms, the first ones are merely flat and missing from the profile)

A very dangerous hilly stage that could turn the GC upside down.

Climbs:

Portillo de la Sía, 1st Cat.
I think that side is easier than it appears in the profile, which is confusing me right now... might be an error from the program or I might have the wrong climb.

It hurts to see this stage thinking of what we have in this Vuelta :(

btw
Alpine? :eek::confused:

Stage 13, Friday. Santander-Gijón (189kms)

Flat stage.

Stage 14, Saturday. Gijón-Monte Naranco (166kms)

This finish was first used by the Vuelta a Asturias and it was an immediate success. The riders tackle the short but very steep climb of El Violeo first, then descend right into the well-known Monte Naranco and ride its last 4kms.

Stage 15, Sunday. Oviedo-Ermita de Alba (176kms)

My favourite stage of this Vuelta. A true high mountain stage through the heart of Asturias with some well-known climbs and with a new final climb, much alike Alto di Pampeago.

The Alto de la Cobertoria is climbed twice, first through its traditional side, the one that will be climbed next weekend, then the riders go down the northern side, through the Collado Puerco and Alto del Cordal and then up again through the side they usually descend from, which is also the hardest.

Stage 16, Monday. Grado-Lugo (205kms)

Flat stage.

Stage 17, Tuesday. Lugo-Candín (163kms)

Ancares at its best, climbed through its hardest side and with the finish right after the descent.

Climbs:

Alto de Fontaneira, 3rd Cat

Alto de Cerredo, 3rd Cat

Alto de Louxas, 2nd Cat (aprox. 9kms at 5%)

Alto de Sierra Morela, 1st Cat (10,2kms at 6,3%)

Stage 18, Thursday. Salamanca-Talavera de la Reina (196kms)

Last chance for the sprinters.

11afk0o.png

Stage 19, Friday. Talavera de la Reina-Ávila (164kms)

The classic Avila uphill finish, with the cobblestones and the city walls etc. Navalmoral leading to it.

Climbs:

Puerto de Navalmoral, 2nd Cat (15,4kms at 4,4%)
http://www.cyclingcols.com/profiles/NavalmoralS.gif

Stage 20, Saturday. Ávila-San Lorenzo del Escorial (186kms)

A non-stop, rollercoaster hilly stage, the last chance for the GC guys to go at it.

Finish on top of the hill, in the middle of the courtyard of the Monastery of El Escorial.

Alto de Yemas, 3rd Cat.

Puerto de la Paradilla, 2nd Cat (6kms at 6%)

Alto de Abantos, 1st Cat (11,2kms at 5,6%)

Puerto de Robledondo, 3rd Cat (aprox. 5kms at 5%)

Alto de San Lorenzo del Escorial, 2nd Cat (aprox. 5kms at 6,5%)

Ermita de Alba stage is good and the Ancares is interesting. And the hilly stages would be keep things interesting - Naranco, Granada, Cabarceno.

Pandera and Velefique stages aren't very tough though (for the GC guys I mean + gradients) and there's only one really hard MTF in the race.

TT km is alright, and the final stage TT is good but it looks like there's not enough MTFs for the amount of TT.

Guess that means riders will have to attack on climbs that are not MTFs. It is allowed, you know. :p

And the Velefique stage not very tough? Have you looked at the climbs?

La Pandera stage is fine bearing in mind it's in week 1, after all, La Pandera is hard enough to open gaps, but without sapping too much from the legs that the gaps will be huge. We need there to be gaps opened on the GC early, but not so much that the ITT guys can't get into the mix with the long flat TT, because that means the climbers have a deficit going in to the mountains.

I have a País Vasco ready to go, and I am also in the midst of the ideas for another Vuelta, this time eschewing most of the conventions of a GT and trying some completely different ideas (especially for La Vuelta).

Tour of Java - Stage 17
Malang - Sukodono, 179 Km

11b2nnp.jpg

Climb:
Km 161 (Cat. 2) - 5.7 Km @ 6.2%

For a moment I thought about gifting this stage to the sprinters. But eventually I decided to add this small climb in the end. It's nothing scary, but enough to get rid of those massive sprinter trains and give breakaway a chance.

I don't really feel like putting together a GT atm, so instead I will post some different stages that are logistical realistic and that could easily be implemented in a GT, or just serve as inspiration.

The first one is a French mountain stage starting in Annecy, go through Chambéry and Grenoble, and finishing on Col de la Morte.

Annecy - Col de la Morte

Climbs:
km 18: Crêt de Châtillon (17km @ 7%)
km 50: Col de Plainpalais (13km @ 4.5%)
km 83: Col du Granier (15.5km @ 5.5%)
km 101 : Col du Cucheron (8.5km @ 6%)
km 114 : Col de Porte (8km @ 6.5%)
km 162 : Chamrousse (20km @ 6.5%)
km 195 : Col de la Morte (15km @ 7%)

Good design that misses an important point. Ancares is at the border of the provinces of Lugo (region of Galicia) and León (region of Castilla y León). All the stage is hosted in Lugo with the exception of the last descent, which is in León. I wish I was wrong, but given the provincianism of those who would pay for the stage (local and regional authorities), I'm afraid this stage is unlikely to become a reality. I'm sure you know that for a stage like you propose to become a reality the most likely course would be climbing from Pereda, going down through Balouta to Murias, climbing through Pan do Zarco and down back to Pereda. That assumes that someone from León is willing to pay for the stage. Otherwise, this is just wishful thinking unlikely to ever happen.

Tour of Australia - Stage 12

Been a while since I've done a stage. Would have liked to have this one a bit more hilly, and I designed a stage that was, but it needs some serious road upgrades to do it.
We begin today in Wonthaggi, south-east of Melbourne. From here we head east, through the coastal town of Inverloch. There are two small climbs in the first half of the stage, before we head north from Yarram. 34km from the finish we reach the top of Mt. Tassie, before the final run into the finish town of Traralgon. A bit of scenery for the viewers, with early aerial views of the coast and Wilson's Prom, before we move into the Strezlecki ranges and Tarra-Bulga National Park.
(Stage should still be one for the breakaway, given the roads are fairly narrow)
Climbs
57.9km, 4.55km at 4.4%
82.5km, 2.24km at 7.9%
148.5km, 7.52km at 5.3% followed by 3.36km at 4.1%

Tour of Australia - Stage 13

Another day for the sprinters today, before the weekend GC action. Pancake flat from Traralgon to Lakes Entrance. The finish town itself is a popular summer tourist destination, with a range of activities on the lakes and ocean. Unfortunately for those hoping for some echelon action, the sandbars stop most of the sea breeze.

Tour of Java - Stage 18 (MTT)
Senduro - Mount Semeru, 18.1 Km

334hs83.jpg

The 18th stage is the third individual Time Trial of the Tour (plus the Prologue). This is a MTT of approximately 18 kms in a beautiful setting, Gunung Semeru. It's a very steady climb for indonesian standards, with the hardest slopes at 16 % in the central part but generally around 7-8%.

Gunung Semeru

Semeru is the tall one in the background. The smaller one is Mount Bromo. Keep this name in mind

Just a couple kms southwest of the finishing line there's a marvelous volcanic lake where riders could use a bath before tomorrow's massacre.
