I saw Cyclocross 24 tweet that article; very interesting snippets of info. I would like to know why he won't join Baloise-Trek for his CX racing....Getting tuition from Sven has improved Brand and Van Anrooij. Why wouldn't you want to learn from him? Is there a CX expert on Lidl-Trek? One can only assume that CX is not really a priority.......

Somewhere in the ball park of 15-20000 euros. So does Van Aert, btw.
During the Namur race, the RTBF consultant Gerard Bullens, who seems to have been around forever and knows everyone, advanced the figures of 15K for MvdP and WvA, and 10K for TP, the specialists earning 3-5K.
More interesting to me, Bullens noted that back in the day of much lower base salaries, cyclocross fees represented a significant portion of a rider's earnings, whereas now, the appearance fees are basically pocket change compared to base salaries.

I've heard some podcasts with North American riders that would hardly draw crowds in Belgium talking about fairly significant start money for European races. In the neighborhood of 500 EUR, maybe more in some cases.

It's interesting that CX World Cups are paying 'start money' - I've never heard of this in modern day MTB World Cups......
I'd guess that is because they are the pinnacle for MTB... and all teams/ riders want to be there.

I thought start money, at least officially, was not allowed for World Cups. To be clear, I was not suggesting World Cups were paying start money, and the riders I heard were speaking about other races.

What’s up with Ryan Kamp? He had a good start at Antwerpen but then faded away and it looked like a DNF in the end.

Lap 6: the face of Iserbyt when he dropped Nieuwenhuis and then looked back only to find Van Aert back on his wheel… “oh no, not him!”

The broadcast only showed the aftermath, but Kamp seemed to have crashed fairly hard on the beach section at Antwerp.

Jon's is right, but perhaps there is an alternative view that if his team think he is crap, he better ride accordingly.

I would not have pegged this as a good course for Pieterse. If she can find a vein of form, the kerstperiode all of a sudden becomes a bit more interesting.
This suits Pieterse perfectly. Mud, technical, lots of daredevil descending... in terms of power Van Empel was probably her equal, but she rode totally without confidence. And confidence is something which Pieterse has in spades.

I think Brand may be the one most disappointed with this race. She was technically better than Van Empel today, but Fem destroyed her on the power sections.

Agree - Puck would like that type of course; uphill, downhill, some technical sections........Fem does have limitations technically....but can get away with it on most courses.

And the men's race is over.

At least this time Van Aert is putting up a fight but it is looking like another Van der Poel masterclass.

Good to see Pieterse winning again in the women's side.

My mistake. I viewed this more as a heavy, muddy course that would favor the power of van Empel. A Wout course, if you will.

Some impressive finishes by some teenagers in the women's race. I wonder why Isabella Holmgren didn't start this one. She was on the start list when I checked a few days ago.

I honestly didn't expect Puck to win before the race.

This season I watched some XCO and realized Puck is not the best descender in XCO and this season somehow it also translated in CX. But I guess with improving form she'll show her technical skills in CX again.

Great race today, haven't enjoyed Gavere more than today.

Puck is not the best descender in XCO, but in cyclocross she probably is. It's also more about just having the balls. Fem crashed on her already injured knee during recon, that obviously didn't help.

Talking about injuries, Van Anrooij posts on Instagram that she has pain in her ribs from a training crash and will skip the next few races to get them checked out.
