Great to see national colours out however field appeared rather small? Tricky course saw various errors with van der Heijden holding it together best after taking early lead.
And yes, I know I wrote this just a week ago. The earlier races were good, but without some of the other stars starting to show up, I think it will be the Lucinda Brand show for the most part, with a sprinkling of other riders winning. It would be nice to see some nuclear racing. The races have been really good, but I wish Alvarado were racing, because she'd make them ever better.
My guess is that the course would require to have the min course width of 3m at high tide , then tide times would not be an issue. So, random question:
On a route like this weekend (Euros, specifically), do they schedule the races as to not get into "conflict" with the tide?
Or do they just make sure there's space for the riders?
I'd just like to see Aniek van Alphen win a race. She's long overdue. If everyone can win, as seems to be the case this season, surely Aniek can as well.Women's races are really suffering from not having Fem, Shirin, Puck, and Ceylin racing. Today was slightly interesting, but not overly so. Lucinda kept doing the "I'll help close in the sand, but you're going to need to catch her on the faster parts" with Casasola, but past that, it was a snoozefest.
Something I don't want to see in off-road racing - leave that for Road races.......Just ride for yourself as is meant, despite the jersey. Also interesting to see some 2nd-group syndrome with Casasola and Brand in the early laps. Haven't seen that too often in cross races.
agreed. I didn't mean that I liked it, but found it humorous since I hadn't noticed it often in cross races before.Something I don't want to see in off-road racing - leave that for Road races.......Just ride for yourself as is meant, despite the jersey.
I maybe wrong but it looked to me that as soon as Van der Heijden took the lead she double benefited from Brand not chasing her national teammate and Cassasola not being prepared to chase her trade teammate.Something I don't want to see in off-road racing - leave that for Road races.......Just ride for yourself as is meant, despite the jersey.
This is why you really need to practice your hard starts for CX, especially if you're a Dutch woman.I maybe wrong but it looked to me that as soon as Van der Heijden took the lead she double benefited from Brand not chasing her national teammate and Cassasola not being prepared to chase her trade teammate.
True, but four races in as I write and two bronzes for Belgium is not great, unlikely to win a medal in U23 women. All down to senior men this afternoon.Said, slightly with tongue in cheek; have British Cycling actually sent a team? 3 races, and not one Top 10......I think Zoe Roche was prominent early in the Juniors, but soon went backwards. There is talent in UK cycling, not enough is seen in Cyclocross/ XC MTB at the moment.

That's the same in nearly every championship, and we know why: Belgium is the only nation that takes cyclocross seriously as a profession. For the other nations it's mainly a talent development tool, so all the biggest talents disappear from cross... apart from the Belgians.True, but four races in as I write and two bronzes for Belgium is not great, unlikely to win a medal in U23 women. You're right there , in women's CX there is so little depth of field . Men's racing is better which sees a greater number of competitors likely to win and more exciting racing (without mvdp)With the best will in the world, both of the women are making up the numbers, and are nowhere near getting a Top 10 result. Take Zoe away, and it's not great. Cam may do quite well, and is in good form but I'm not sure it's a course that suits him.
Who had forecast Inge Van der Heijden to win the women's race? You're right there , in women's CX there is so little depth of field . Men's racing is better which sees a greater number of competitors likely to win and more exciting racing (without mvdp)
Now who had forecast a Toon win?
