I welcome any company willing to sponsor cycling.
Is Radio Shack the main sponsor or just one of many?

I've heard the same thing. When Columbia came on with HighRoad last year, they said that the budget for the cycling team would be the same as what Bud spends on Super Bowl ads. One year of sponsorship and all the free press that comes along with it, or a handful of minutes? Seems like a good deal.groverjones said:I used to work for CSC and left a bit after we dropped the sponsorship, we were told that overall cycling sponsorship is not expensive compared to other ways of getting your message out there, especially compared to other sports.
I guess RadioShack looked at the chance of working with Lance, and figured that it might give them an increase in their market share against Best Buy for (a lot) cheaper than traditional advertising.
I guess they'll be concentrating most of their time on the US PRO circuit, plus the Grand boucles, so that most of the eyeballs that see their name on jerseys are American.
Boeing said:French will not allow 3 American teams in Le TOur. This means Garmin is out
Although they might not let Lance in
A Sponsor is a sponsor not sure how this in "embarrassing" clearly one has never been a dedicated cat one knocking on doors and writing letters for cash to race. Dude is waiting for Zipp to call him I guess. Tool

Maybe Vino's Astana will be refused a license and Radio Shack will take their place?

But you have to admit, they do come in handy from time to time.The_Z_man said:They make home pregnancy tests.

My guess is that the Tour could use this to snub LA and keep them out, unless they somehow put a monster of an early season together. Much will depend on the names of the roster that start to leak out here shortly.

Hinault does not represent the tour or French interests. His conflict with LA is personal.
Also they'll likely have at least two GC contenders. LA, LL, and who knows where AC will end up b/c JB still holds his rights. I wouldn't bet my hard earned cash on LA or LL but they have to be considered contenders. Look for 3 American teams next year.
Can anyone say paradigm shift?
Cobblestones said:The last time I checked, Radio Shack didn't own all that many profitable oil and gas fields.
avanti said:My understanding is that the pro-tour licence is held by JB and Astana is the current sponsor of his team.
Susan Westemeyer said:No. The Kazakh Cycling Federation holds the ProTour licence.
