It perhaps was the greatest race I never saw.

Poor guy :D

To be honest I just didn't fancy it  It's a Sunday kept the kids entertained " tried to" Went to the local Jewish bakery because they have some amazing tasty treats . Chocolate Danish is to die for. So came home split the Danish with my wife and had a chilled out day.
I will have a look at highlights later in the year.

Best part of the season is gone, how are you feeling about THAT?
Nonsense. The best part of the season is in May. :p

The Bayern Rundfahrt? I have bad news for you...

Seriously though, my yearly Giro vacation is all booked. Is it May yet?
I expected some italianos to come up, you havent dissapointed :D

I love Giro, its the second :p best month of the year :D
Now seriously, as the field is not so shinny this year, I think it might be a little bit less atractive for me
Italianos is quite a fun word, ngl, very Spanish ;)

Probably because I do speak spanish and not italian :p :-D

@Incognito
I meant Esh :)

So happy I downloaded the race in super HD and watched it in full instead of suffering through bad, choppy streams as I've done for most of the other big races this year. Best decision I've done for some time.

Had a similar day. Went to the beach with the wife and kid. Visited my mother in law where mire kids were. All in good sunny weather. Almost got burned.
All the while my recorder was recording the race though and once the kid was in bed I watched race. I obviously avoided spoilers, else it's no fun.

Without knowing the result I assume?

Of course  Avoided all cycling sites in the meantime.

I'm struggling to think of a better race I've seen. Maybe Mendrisio is a candidate.

I gave it a 9. Though, still among the best versions, I've seen since 1986.

The progression of the race, with the two top favourites stuggling behind without help from team mates, spectacular cobble stone sections, crashes, the always switch in rider initiatives in different breakaway groups, a thrilling final 30 k's, a man sprint that reminds me of really old days and a very well deserved winner on top of it.

What more could you possible want?

Maybe that the two top favourites was not catched in the crash at Mons en Pévèle. If not, we could have had a race situation even more delicate for the final part. Not that I think Cance and Sagan would make it to the front, but their 'never give up' style could've brought that extra spice into the salad. That would have been a clean 10 for me.

But still among the best road races I've seen for decades.

Don't worry. The highlights can be narrowed down to about 7 hours.

10 for me. Best race I've ever seen. Super happy for Hayman. I'd picked Boonen. He'd already forewarned the others hadn't he? 'Big balls' Would have been happy for him if he'd won, but Hayman taking it really was perfect in hindsight. What a story. He'll look back on this and I think his trophy will glow even brighter when he considers who those other 4 riders were in the finale. Gives his win huge cred.

Later in the year?! In my 10+ years of watching this sport I'm struggling to think of a better race. I even watched the last few K's highlights again on Sunday night! :D

Only 7 for me.

For some reason, the big break, and all the crashes took the excitement out of the race for me. That being said, the last few Kms was fun to watch but still somewhat predictable after Heyman made it back to the group. It was clear that he will not work or will attack.

While I would prefer Boonen to win, it is always good to see 2nd tier domestique to get a big win. My favorite moment was when Luke Rowe put the hammer down and created the final split for Stannard.

I put an 8, it was a good race, but I dont like when the result is for an incident, in this case for a crash. Cancellara and Sagan were involved in a crash, it wanst his blame and Ettix took advantage on that... you are not going to wait, of course, but the race wanst so launched to star in that moment to pull as crazy with Tony Martin, anyway I dont have all the viedo of what happened to say better.

Anyway you can do it, I just say that I prefer when the stronger riders get Arenberg together and then we see a batlle face to face. We missed that battle, so I dont like that too much.

For the rest it was an impressive race, and very good for young people to become cycling fans...

It's all part of the game at PR. The best riders usually spend quite a lot of energy making sure they are as close to the front as possible throughout the race.[/quote]

That's what makes Hayman's win so good. He was at the front the whole race and making the pace. Those expressing disappointment that the favourites did not win need to ask them why they didn't ride to win - by staying at the front and out of trouble.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

It is impossible to be always at the front in a race like this, what, well, I agree. and if I put an 8 is becouse it was a great race, but I can rate more for that.

I understand that if somebody is not at the front, maybe becouse they dont have the better possible teams, and becouse Arenberg was close, and the next step was to be at the very front, they payed that, well...Acording to Sagan, he was involved in both crashes, so it is not a question to be at the front, but bad luck. As I said, Ettixx should be doing what thet were doing before, to be at the front, but not to pull in an stronger way. Doing that Cancellara and Sagan get a dissdvantage, but a fair dissadvantage, If you attack that way becoue you have very good teams, as Etixx or SKY, well, you can, but I am not going to praise your race the same way.

If Sagan consider that he and Cancellara lost the race by bad luck, it is the same that to ssay that others got good luck, and I can put of course the perfection, that is a 10, or close to the perfection, a 9,...becouse it was a result very influenced by luck.. no more.

Of course Hayman has no blame of that and hi victory is meritable, deserved and there is nothing to say on that.

What nonsense.

You can be riding at the front only to be hampered by incidents beyond your control. Luck plays a major part in winning races like this.

As Luke Rowe can can rightly point out, although being KO'd by a teammate probably wasn't the ideal example, but anything can happen in PR.

Of course you can get hampered by an incident anywhere. But you're a lot less likely to get held up when you have only five riders ahead of you, than when you have fifty riders in front of you.

Luck is a factor in PR, but getting caught behind a crash because you're in the middle of the peloton isn't bad luck - it's poor positioning.

only thing against this PR edition i have is that it wasnt epic,as much as i enjoy a surprising winner id enjoy big boys fighting each other much more,i didnt watch FC Porto vs. Monaco in Champions league final for the same reason
