I think you’re conflating the fact that stars attract non- fans looking to see a spectacle with the fact the they attract true fans as well, who just want to see the best at what they do best. Both things can be true at the same time,
If a fan is not interested in a race unless it has one of the biggest stars in it, that kind of person is usually more a fan of winning than they are a fan of the sport.

I mean, the Giro once paid the biggest star in cycling not to turn up so that people might get to see a race rather than a procession.

Not related to cycling, but when Petter Northug retired from cross country skiing, there was a narrative among some Norwegians that they wouldn't follow cross country any more. My response then was that they weren't fans of the sport, but just normal celebrity fans......

Good to see a more than decent amount of air travel. Keep up the good work boys.
Money talks, the Fifa world cup in 2026 is being held across the an entire continent, and in 2030 is being held in two different continents. Not exactly great for the climate, but money is more important to these organizations at the end of the day.

I was looking at this route, there are some crazy transfers in general. They make these short stages so it's not 'too hard', but then have huge transfers, which riders hate. I think today's peloton would prefer a few 200km stages if it meant less transfers.
Shows how good the 2015 route was, had virtually no transfers at all.

the effective scc of the flights needed is less than the price of a bike. run the numbers, get some sense of proportion. no matter what sdr you use and whether or not you ignore the displacement through the eu ets, it's not going to be a big deal compared to the size of the operation.
