Remco Evenepoel

Well Remco seems to be following the Sky methodology. All about weight loss it seems, and i reckon it is doing damage on his power output.

Too bad for him that the Sky methods won't cut it now. I think it likely that Remco is the closest to clean of the mutant gen. He has strengths that suggest a very high VO2, very high LT, and is aero as heck and is also fairly light. But you can't have it all without a delightful chemical cocktail, and he definitely does not have it all.

Is this what a supertalent on pan y agua looks like?
Completely cooked after two weeks of hard (even if the parcour has been soft) racing and way below previous level. Or is the cocktail not strong enough when the winter base training is missing?

nah

this is the CO missing.

Think we know Pog is on something else, while Vingo and Remco were in the gas chamber at altitude huffing the CO

this is Remco's normal level. every other grand tour he does he gets dropped on the first big climb of a mountain stage and out of GC.

not even close

He dominated the first big climb in 2022 at the Vuelta. He was best of the peloton in the first big climb in 2023 giro and won on the first big MTF at that year's Vuelta. Was fine on Galiber last year

yeah i said every other grand tour, as in 1 good one and 1 bad one. got dropped big at his next GT (that he even made it to the mountains in) on the Aubisque in the 2023 Vuelta. then did a good Tour last year, dropped on the Tourmalet this year.

I think MVDP too, bc he looked so gassed after the day when he won by 1 second. Guys on strong gear look fresh as a daisy (Pog)

The guy is absolutely ridiculous. He's destroying everyone in Africa + coming second in a very tough race less than three days ago. Then he'll take a little road trip through Africa, come over to Europe, and destroy the second strongest guy who has been saving himself exclusively for this race.

It's simple. He has the aerodynamics of a fighter jet and the smooth skin of a fish.
Or so they say...

The time gap is just insane. That headwind provably helped him a bit but regardless, it is insane. Beating Ganna with 43 seconds, who is himself miles ahead of the others with 26 seconds, and this for just a TT of only 25 km and without much climbing. I wonder, did we just witness the best TT version of Remco yet? And maybe the best TT performance of all time?

Dominant win for sure, but the effort can't be compared to anything historically. The TT is just to short and the pace was too low. Had it been 45-50kms with more non tech flatness, I think we could have witness something historical.

It's always a relative comparison and that has its limits. It looked like a perfect ride from Remco, in a condition of supercompensation apparantly, so it is at least close what we can expect from him in the most optimal conditions. Ganna was probably well-prepared and in great shape but it is difficult to assess how good his performance really was without power data. But he did say the following: "Compared to last year, I'm riding better times, even though I'm three or four kilos lighter. That means Remco is simply a *** rocket, you can't say much more about that."

It's fascinating Ganna calls him a rocket, cause I always saw a bullet and I guess the shape is similar even if the size is different 😂

I oftentimes give riders names in my head depending on how they move. (Alaphilippe weasel, Almeida monkey/cave man, Yates cat, Wout wolf etc) Remco was always a "bullet". The way he penetrates through air is so not like anyone else.

nowhere close to Luxembourg or the final stage of the 1989 TDF

Those were over the top TT performances

Probably. It's long ago and difficult to compare with today's performance. To be clear, I am not insinuating he did anything 'special' here. My post was neutral and doesn't really belong in the clinic. I was just very impressed. I thought it would be a battle with Ganna, not a walkover.
