I doubt Renshaw will rack up the wins and be able to keep up with the likes of Greipel and Cavendish. Maybe like people have said, 3-5 victories and the rest will be top 10's.

I do see one thing though, he'll beat Farrar next year :D

actually bos has a really quick burst of speed, he'd have no problem holding renshaw's wheel. He just lacks other qualities that make him a complete rider. In fact Bos is the type of sprinter who would benefit greatly from a train, as he struggles to hold his burst for too long + isn't a superstar in positioning. Renshaw would help him greatly in these areas.. In theory renshaw and bos would be a pretty decent combo. Of course there is more to a train then just the final man. Leezer is pretty good in a train. Boom can get good position as an earlier member. Maybe matthews in there also.

Anyway renshaw mentioned working with Bos aswell as having opportunities for himself. So he will certainly have to work for Bos on occasion - rightly so - while also getting his chance.

I know he has a burst, but I doubt his lungs and ability to recover. Can he stay with Renshaw long enough to kick into his burst? How many times have we've seen sprinters lose their leadout? I also question his GT ability. I fully expect them to trade opportunities, but I'm afraid Renshaw might be wasting his efforts leading out Bos. You might be right though. I'm just excited to see Renshaw open it up a little more throughout the season.

I was thinking about this. Someone as fast as Bos, but who struggles to position himself and hold a speed for long enough on the road is a perfect match for Renshaw. And perhaps a chance for Renshaw to show it's not just Cav being the best, but his lead outs as the best.

As for losing a lead out's wheel, that is one of the real abilities of Renshaw compared to most lead outs. He doesn't lose his sprinter. As long as Bos trusts him, and doesn't leave him to jump on another sprinter or train moving past.

I just think it's silly for Renshaw to leave Cav to do what he has done at HTC anyway. Race some races as sprinter, some as lead out. He should give himself a season or two to train and ride purely as a sprinter.

Good point! The move will only benefit Renshaw. If Bos turns into a consistent contender in bigger races, it will prove just how valuable Renshaw is as a leadout. On the other hand, if not, he'll also get some opportunities to go at it himself.

And if he fails at both and ends up looking like Gerald?

I expect this to be yet another 'big name' Rabo signing that winds up flopping.:(

Too early to tell. Most people expected Renshaw to follow Cavendish. Renshaw is a very good sprinter but whether he can compete with the best week in week out, remains to be seen. If he does not get results, the team may ask him to be the lead out man for Matthews which is what I thought he was going to be, but apparently not. I suppose it's not a bad move from Rabobank as Freire will retire soon but maybe a good climber to help Gesink would also have been a wise move.

Haha, I don't know, after the TDF, maybe supporting Matthews and Bos is a better option than Gesink!

While i am sure that the chance to see if he could succeed as the top man instead of Cav's lead out was a sweetener in the move, the initial story on his signing implied that financial reward was more of a lure than sporting aspects.

if Sky had offered more money i am sure he would still be leading Cav out next season

I think they have enough domestiques.
Garate, Barredo, LTD, Slagter, Mollema etc. He just needs to avoid crashing.

Exactly, they have climbers aplenty. But during the Tour most of them were injured or ill in some way.

They also have a lot of sprinters, actually, but none of them really have a lot of experience. Except for Freire, who will probably leave next year, and Graeme Brown, who is, well, Graeme Brown.

But should become a lead out guy - did well at it at the start of the year but then ?

Brown = bulldozer.

nuff' said.

Making him the perfect leadout guy. Train with Brown-Renshaw-sprinter will win before the final 100 meter even starts. Nobody will dare to get close.

It appears Renshaw has initiated the transfer himself. Will lead-out Bos and also get his own chances.

Source: http://www.rabosport.nl/wielrennen/nieuws/3823/Komst_Mark_Renshaw_definitief (Dutch)

Quotes:

Bos: "Mark is the best lead-out man in the world. I'm thrilled Renshaw had chosen for Rabo. Working together with Mark will benefit my development."

Renshaw: "For many years I've helped others win races, now I'll try to win some of the biggest races myself. Rabo is one of the most professional teams with a solid structure, which will allow me to chase my goals. I look forward to sharing my experience, helping Theo Bos, and helping Rabo to win races."

That's just stupid.

That's the spin Rabosport put on it, but from the video interview you can clearly see that Renshaw didn't go to Rabo to be a leadout for Bos. He wants to be their no. 1 sprinter, which is another Rabo fail in the making, if you ask me.

nothing stupid about it.

It is incredibly stupid to think he left Cav to lead out Bos.
