Everything in the infinite is born of something, so either god is the exception, or the universe is. The infinite does neither belief a favor. Time may have rules, but it has no physical substance.

To the bible scholars out there - was Mary born of a virgin as well? In Spain they worship Mary's mother a lot ("Santa Ana"), many statues of her, churches and streets named after her, but I never heard that she also gave "virgin birth".

Forms come, forms go in time. Matter is constantly recycled.

St Luke1
1:7 And they had no child, because that Elisabeth was barren, and they both were now well stricken in years

1:18 And Zacharias said unto the angel, Whereby shall I know this? for I am an old man, and my wife well stricken in years. 1:19And the angel answering said unto him, I am Gabriel, that stand in the presence of God; and am sent to speak unto thee, and to shew thee these glad tidings.1:20And, behold, thou shalt be dumb, and not able to speak, until the day that these things shall be performed, because thou believest not my words, which shall be fulfilled in their season. 1:21

1:24And after those days his wife Elisabeth conceived, and hid herself five months, saying, 1:25Thus hath the Lord dealt with me in the days wherein he looked on me, to take away my reproach among men. 1:26And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth, 1:27To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name was Mary

1:36And, behold, thy cousin Elisabeth, she hath also conceived a son in her old age: and this is the sixth month with her, who was called barren

1:56And Mary abode with her about three months, and returned to her own house. 1:57Now Elisabeth's full time came that she should be delivered; and she brought forth a son.

What is the sixth sign of the zodiac? Virgo. What is the third sign of the zodiac? Gemini. One is about falling, the other about rising - very broadly speaking.

Do you think this is about a transition of the ages? John is born of the old age and baptises Jesus, of the new, with water (the material world of forms).

There are layers of meaning in this allegory, astro-theology being one.

The Jews are said to have been evicted from Palestine in 72-3 AD. This didn't happen historically but it does take approx. 72 yrs. for the sun to move 1 degree in the precession. In other words the age of Pisces had been confirmed and the religion of Aries (Judaism) was over (in the heavens).

I wonder what echoes' opinion is on homosexuality. Historically religions have made life hell for gay people (and told them it continues to be hell afterwards)

And the politicians he has identified with and expressed strong support for - Assad and Putin, both commit human rights violations against the lgbt communities in their countries.

You against gay rights echoes?

Trust me, you don't want to know what his position is on homosexuality.

Let's just say he's said many times if he said what he thinks about it, he'd probably be banned.

Interesting stuff. Anywhere to read more about this kind of thing? Thanks.

Could Jesus read or was he illiterate?

I had never thought about that, but I came across the song "The good book" by Tim Minchin (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YMnEpOsGH4o) and towards the end he says (if I understood correctly) "Just cause Jesus couldn't read, doesn't mean that we would need...". But I am not 100% sure because it's pretty fast and I am not used to his accent (australian, I think).

But I thought it is a valid question. I am not an expert on the history of reading and writing of course, but I suppose historically there is a very, very low chance that a man of his origins and social status would have been able to read. What does it say in the bible? Did he learn it as a child, as an adult?

Then I remembered the controversy about Mohammed and whether or not he is a real prophet. I guess some people say he just ripped off from the bible, but then others say he couldn't have since he was illiterate. I've also heard that he was somewhat of a "traveling salesman", and that therefore he was in contact with christian monks and such.

I found this interview an interesting development http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-25800158. Vladimir Putin showing real contrition? Ok it could be a publicity stunt for the fourth coming winter Olympics in Sochi, but it may mean that he has given the subject some real thought! After all Putin has agreed to release Pus*y Riot. They say they wear masks and hide their identity because it makes them feel invincible, they can do and say what they like. Well that carry on can get you up sh≠t street without a paddle to mix a metaphor. I think Pus*y Riot needed somewhere to put all their creative energy constructively.

I prefer this one Christian http://youtu.be/IZeWPScnolo and the song.... hear it out, it builds to be quite funny. I think Tim Minchin is a genius:)

I was disappointed by Putin.

Those *****es, heavily paid by Soros only deserved to rot in Siberian jails. Just for Olympic Games ...

Gracing Khodorkovsky seems even worse but at least there's no way now that he can rob the country now the way he and his Oligarch friends did during the Eltsin years.

Zemmour said Putin behaved like a Czar, gracing who he wants when he wants but against Soros there's no compromise possible.

Are you denying that there is a large number of Christians in the world who believe homesexuality is a sin and a sinner goes to hell? Also there are Christians that believe the HIV was send from God as a punishment for homosexuality?
I can assure you that they do exist and with significant numbers.

How does that work in Africa where the majority of HIV is amongst heterosexuals? Is that Gods Punishment for being black and straight?
My problem with all religions is the idea that only religious people are moral. Or that agnostics are not.
It seems a morality based on human values should work better than one based on religious especially if the non believer gets a pass. Murder, stealing and adultery are wrong regardless of them being listed as sins or a belief in a diety.

Surely, you won't tell me that these basterds who think they're musicians should be defended, really?

That's because you are bigoted Lefebvrian whose views are the supreme annihilator of a person's soul, the supreme inspirer of terror, the supreme destroyer of character. Untold millions owe it to the Catholic Church* that they have been utterly destroyed, that their lives have been ruined, that their nature denaturized. The Catholic Church has the destruction of the human personality on its conscience--that's the truth. For, as you personally attest, the Catholic Church (especially in its most radical and conservative sects like yours) won't tolerate any human being other than a (true) Catholic human being. It's unwavering aim is to turn human beings into (pre-Vatican II) Catholics, mindless creatures who've forgotten how to think for themselves and betrayed independence of thought to the Catholic religion. Catholic children, especially in the country, always delighted in Catholic ritual, which at first seemed like a fairy tale, Echoes, undoubtedly the most beautiful they knew. And for the grown-ups it was a lifelong spectacle, the only one they knew. But the fairy tale and the spectacle have between them perverted and destroyed all that's natural in human beings. Using the fairy tale for children and the spectacle for adults, the Catholic church pursues a single aim, the total seduction of all those who fall into its clutches. It uses the fairy tale and the spectacle to bend them to its will, to extinguish them as human beings, to turn them into unthinking Catholics who have no free will of their own and whom they insolently call the faithful. The Catholic faith, like all faiths, is a perversion of nature, a sickness to which millions succumb quite deliberately because it's their only salvation, the salvation of the weak, who are quite incapable of independent thought and, having no minds of their own, need a higher mind to think for them, on a proxy basis and in its own way.

You simply live in a willfully circumscribed world, Echoes, and despise other's freedom to think (rationally) as they please. Your dogmatic and confined vision, moreover, gives you the arrogance to even presume that you uniquely possess the truth despite all the evidence to the contrary. Anything beyond your tight moral compass is denounced as anathema, while your commentary clearly evidences that you have none (morals). This naturally makes you repulsive and the worst kind of hypocrite with it. You are an intolerable moralist who believes in the most inane, childish and pathetic of mythologies.

*What I say of Catholic orthodoxy naturally holds true for all the Christian churches, protestant, evangelical, new age alike, which, however, are utterly devoid the culture of ritual and the arts of their Catholic predecessor. And the only thing that’s plainly worse than religion, is religion without culture.

I can't talk for Echoes, but it seems obvious to me that once you are believing in G-D you believe that what he commands you to do is essentially the basis for all morality. So it isn't all about the repercussions.

Is this where we're going? Or are we already there? Big 'ole questions arise.

'My name is Ozymandias, king of kings: Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!' Quote Shelley.

When Ubermensch meets ‘Brave New World’ - they come up with Transhumanism!

Is social engineering and the tyranny of man anything new? Perhaps it just gets modernised, with new and better technology. I think the internet is a good technology, it is communication, breaks down barriers and educates.

How old is the internet now twenty or so years? It is embryonic but fast growing. Then there are specialist forums like this one that are esoteric groups. We have shared knowledge and interests. And here we all are as complete strangers, having it out, and the only thing the receiver has to go on is what we chose to write. Of that, about 40% of an individual we can glean information about, the other 60% is a fill in. Apparently.

And the secret to immortality is write a dame book, a good one preferably. And on the internet we write, not so much for tomorrow’s fish and chip paper, but tomorrow’s googling shi*t. And that android thing, it is A.I, conscience will only be programmed into a microchip – just a copy, not the real or living person.

Now the internet has to be a good thing, just think, if it were not for the internet, then Echoes would not have unbound freedom of speech, and that would be a tragedy for mankind would it not?

A price worth paying 

Technology isn't necessarily good or bad but it's how it 's applied, the intention as always. The military and social engineers get first crack.

There's, undoubtedly, a massive wave of change coming at ever greater speed as tech. knowledge has gone exponential. It's interesting to consider particularly when one has some understanding of the role the esoteric has played throughout history, the spritual quest.

We're entering warp speed, seems worthwhile to at least give it a thought or two. Massive implications.
Alchemy, the occult, and transhumanism
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vDHRHh9vilc

What I find interesting about those Kurdish mystics performing their rituals is that it's timeless. They're at ground zero for this whole experiment yet their way of living hasn't really changed much at all, nor their rituals and the way they study consciousness. Maybe they know the tree of life while we explore the tree of knowledge? Unity, duality.

To my mind immortality, the fountain of youth etc. is the creative principle of life, imagination.

Lance Armstrong should be celebrated as a pioneer in human enhancement...according to this community.
http://www.wired.co.uk/topics/transhuman-week

http://www.extremetech.com/tag/transhumanism

The singularity, the hive mind. Free will, choice? How will they define consciousness? Is consciousness local or non-local? Will complexity theory answer all these questions?
Why am I sceptical? hahaha.

Understanding something about this and the quest that has underpinned 'progress' certainly makes it easier to make sense of a seemingly non-sensical world. Maybe this is why there appears to be so little concern over Fukushima, for ex. Posthumans won't need to worry about radiation. We'll be Gods.

Crazy stuff.

I think you need to start a new thread Retro, you are out growing the God and Religion one. You do a lot of thinking - I can not keep up!

Well, with my comments on the internet, I was more referring to what ordinary people get out of it. Powerful use of technology is here though.

Your Kurdish vid. Well look at parts of Japan, they still dress like they did thousands of years ago.

Not a huge best seller, but worth a read – nice little book, Kinship with All Life. By J. Allan Boone. Starts off better than it finishes, but it has many chapters on connecting with all life. It moves away from humanism too. Like the American Indians think that trees have a form of consciousness.

Your article on Lance Armstrong is an interesting subject. it is all just nasty stuff. The sport made him. And it made the nasty covert rules to allow him to win seven tours.

There is debate on PED’s being legalised (officially). And there is an argument that it will level the playing field – free to choose an option? No more controlling who wins racesFroome is training out in SA and Brailsford stated that his protein supplements were stolen by Baboons and that they will now be walking around with “massive arms”.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/ot...our-de-France-title-says-Dave-Brailsford.html

All this robot stuff, transhuman sh*it, all a bit creepy for my liking.
