how is one to sing this?

I would prefer that it be done in a way that our user names cannot be traced to our signatory names.

Either sign in here OR sign it on the online petition (up in about 4 hrs). I think we will just log the number of people from CN who have signed it within the petition, with a link to this thread. No name cross linking.

Starting the petition here gives CN members a way to add their "vote" without revealing their real names ANYWHERE. The more sign it here the easier it becomes for us to promote over other networks.

Tinman wants to try and get it as far as possible for UCI meeting Friday 21!

Enjoy tilting at windmills, all you Don Quixotes.

When riders want change bad enough to resign their USAC memberships en masse, then MAYBE, there will be change. But riders will never do that because they are sheep. They will whine about Verdruggen and Fat Pat and Weasel, but they will keep sending in their membership checks each year. They would rather belong to the UCI herd rather than separate themselves from it.

Nothing is going to change. The Omertà boys like Wiggins And Talansky are the future of pro cycling.

Whilst I don't want to derail this thread with a debate I don't really get this.

This letter isn't about the riders. You are right that they are not speaking out. What is being put forward is that - we the fans - are not happy with the governing body. It's got **** all to do with the riders. If fans and journalist put enough pressure on now, given everything that is happening their is a slight glimmer of something being achieved.

Your also right that this attempt may never get off the ground and never see the light of day but surely it is at least worth a shot?

If everyone just says 'ah well, the riders don't want change, the UCI will remain as is and can't see the point' you can be 100% certain nothing will happen.

Your clearly a fan of cycling. Regardless of what you think may happen would you personally like to see change?

@markvw, Absolutely I enjoy it. An even fight offers no real challenge.

Meanwhile, do you enjoy mocking people for speaking up, essentially doing the job of a paid shill without even getting paid for it?

We all have out little idiosyncrasies.....

Edit 21 signatures so far, thanks for your support guys.

Way to miss a point.

People who wish to cycle/race need to be part of the UCI In one form or another- that does not mean that they want Fat Pat and the mob as part of the UCI.
Also - USAC? Ah, there is a few other countries outside of the USA, just thought you should know.

You are making the point that people who wish to cycle/race "need" to be a part of a corrupt organization.

That is absurd (and not intended as an attack or denigration of your point). What is really happening is that people who wish to cycle/race value that cycling/racing more than they care about supporting a corrupt organization.

This is EXACTLY the same thing we fans hit the pro riders about. We complain about their omerta supporting the doping establishment, but we reject their absolutely legitimate fears about being banished from the sport if they break omerta. For the pro riders, their omerta is the same thing as an ordinary member's dues--it's just something that the pro has to do to keep cycling/racing.

The UCI monopoly is the real problem.

Forget the USAC reference. I was being US-centric. Apologies.

Call me a paid shill, whatever. I've been called an Intern too, so what the heck . . ..

What you are doing is essentially writing a letter to Pat McQuaid asking him to do the right thing. Isn't that futile? If he's not going to turn over the USPS conspiracy info Tygart requested, he's certainly not going to quit because fans (who will never abandon the sport) ask him to quit.

there is the possibilty that the media might pick up the kimmage story and this will be another element to add to it that fans are not happy with the current uci.

the petition needs to get circulated amongst as many online cycling fans as possible though

Hein and Fat Pat have to resign, or be voted out by the board. Who then have to voluntarily dissolve and wind up the organisation. Because Hein and Fat Pat are most certainly corrupt, but they have also corrupted unknown minions to do their dirty work.

I'll sign.

I'm not mocking. I cried at the end of Don Quixote (and it's one of the very very few books that made me cry). I cried because Don Quixote couldn't realize that everything that he did really was noble.

Mark, we are building visibility and public support for a real change in cycling. That has to start at the top with Pat. And it may come tomorrow (unlikely) or in months/years, but it will come! And here's your chance to help accelerate that change.

The letter outlines what we'd like the new UCI to address. The issues are not new. Pat (and Hein) have had their opportunity (to reform), it won't happen with them.

Now who else is in?
