I don't think BMC would be too unhappy with Porte's performance so far. Plenty of Tour riders who have done better than Porte in the past finished behind him yesterday. Funny how some people are already writing off Porte for the rest of the season. Strange.

I'm just going to say that apart from the lack of "marginal gains" -he showed off- which means he has something to offer despite the SKY's casting shadow over his shoulders.......

He targeted this race and in the end he might not even make it to the podium.Seems just right to criticize him.Not climbing better than Thomas is not a good sign at all when your suppose to fight out for GT glory.Let's see if today can do more about it.

It would be fair to say something nice about TLMRTP for the first time: well done today :)

It would be fair, but I just can't get myself to do it :D

I believe Porte is living up to the expectations.
Now he should work on stretching his endurance to three weeks. The camps leading to the Tour are vital for the matter.

I like how he changed approach. Not on his best in January, but starting a bit later.
Think he hoped to be in slightly better shape in PN, but he is close to where he wants to be at this stage of the season if he targets Tour podium

Well starting a bit later is probably more to do with targeted race (Tour not Giro)

Anyway he showed today what we always new he could do, do well in one week stage races

Hmm, he's taking a more relaxed approach in the spring it seems, which for him it's a good sign since he can still compete.

Maybe he's learning from earlier mistakes with a long peak in the spring and then fails in the GT's.

But I still don't expect him to finish higher than 5th in the Tour as maximum.

I dunno, I see podium along with Froome and Bertie.

LRP looks like he's building up to some sort of crescendo, maybe Le Tour is his symphony?

Quintana will be on the podium barring crashes and other weird stuff.

Porte bad luck continues as he's out of Romandie with gastrointestinal problems :( Hopefully this setback won't crash his ambitions for this year TDF.

I'm not a fan of Porte, but as a cycling fan, I don't wish anybody bad luck or misfortunes. Porte seems to collect bad luck and misfortunes. Could some of it be in his head, handling the pressure, and then all of the sudden he doesn't feel too well and things fall apart? He was a very reliable super-dom, but PN put aside (pretty much), as a leader, a pattern may be establishing itself: it's one problem or another...what do you think?

LRP to win the Dauphine?

or holding back for the Tour?
The funny part is that I saw at least one bookie with lower odds for LRP than Aru for the Tour.

No duh! Aru is a proven GT winner, Porte has hardly done anything in GTs.

He climbed and TTed at top GC level on several occasions. What he needs to do it keep is together for 3 weeks

He's the perfect super domestique. He needs to embrace his role in life and target week long stage races and work for GT riders.
