You aren't thinking about the problem right. Sky scientists discover rare illness... And then, with JUST THE RIGHT DOCTOR, Porte returns to GC splendor.

Wait, I thought Sky doctors were ****, and only Cound (with the aid of a Google search) was able to properly diagnose illnesses? Obviously the problem with this TdF is that the real medical expert went home when Dawg crashed out. :p :D

Champs elysees

What on earth was that all about ?? Porte doing a solo on the Champs Elysees ! he recovered quickly from his 'illness' - quoted as needing a break from cycling and then does a Jensie.

This sounds like a 'Silent Ban' is about to happen.

Be interesting to see just how long he is off the scene.

If he has a break from cycling that might mean he won't be training harder than everyone else.

In all seriousness you have to ask the question is the poor boy just fried. Fried from training way too much.

Thought about that - I predict Porte will ride the Vuelta.

He was soft pedalling it in the Tour because he knew he had been told by Froome that he must ride the Vuelta with him. The show on the Champs Elysees was to prove he was feeling good again.

Lets just see how many of the Tour de France squad turn up at the Vuelta. I suspect they were all saving energy because they knew Froome Team had called on them to save energy for HIS Vuelta 2014.

Keep the juice in the fridge, boys.

Late in November Lotto-Belisol rider Adam Hansen tweeted that it had been 41 days since he’d touched a bike. Richie Porte certainly hasn’t enjoyed the same amount of rest and recovery. In fact, when I caught up with him on Saturday morning he was nearing the end of a 700km week.

A 700km week in December? No wonder he fell apart.

One month of antibiotics has solved Porte's poor form. And a new girlfriend helped too.

"I've had a brilliant off-season so far. I ended my racing season in August and went on a month-long course of antibiotics. There was a couple of lifestyle changes too, like having a girlfriend, and my motivation has improved as my health and fitness have gone up,"

From CN article: http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/porte-targets-tour-down-under-after-difficult-2014

I'm pulling a quote from the '13 PN: "Can that be right?"

Hope little Richie doesn't end up the same way as Björn Leukemans. I remember when Leukemans got busted for using testosterone, he said it was down to having sex.

EDIT: If I recall correctly, Leukemans said that his testosterone levels were high was due to the fact he'd just had sex with his wife/gf before the test was taken.

Porte, frustrated and without girlfriend.

Anyway we will probably have to wait until TA/PN for any evidence of resurrection.

Could be that Porte at the end of the day will be TDF captain..
And then to return to his "natural" level of 2012-13...

At least a "valid explanation" for such return is now provided...

He's doing TDU I thought? I'd expect to see the Wilunga record fall (if no wind).

Is 1 month of antibiotics a lot?
