You are posing a rhetorical question.

You don't know other people's answers, but yours is that he was doping but now isn't because somehow the risks are suddenly greater for some unpublicized reason.

Meanwhile previous doper Wiggins seems to be doing just fine off the juice (for the same reason as Porte).

Hmmm. Not a theory that sits very comfortably with the facts, does it.

Maybe the doping (or not doping) is irrelevant and he's just having a bad early season after emptying himself last year.

Passes the probability test for me, and we are still none the wiser as to whether he dopes or not.

If Porte was clean last year, then whats going on now? It doesnt make any sense.

I would love to see how sky fans would explain this. Its not normal for someone to peak for 6 months and be a top 3 climber in the world one year, and the next year become a donkey who gets dropped on flat stages and DNF every other race.

He's just gone back to his 2011 Saxo midset, wants a pay rise and until he gets one he ain't riding.

just wait until tomorrow

if he is not with Froome on the last cat1 climb than you are right

today could be just saving energy for tomorrow

I don't think it's comparable. At Saxo, he was being made to ride for Contador and he obviously couldn't be bothered (he did well in ITTs, where he rode for himself). This year, however, he's wasted several opportunities to do well while racing as de facto team leader.

He was going very strong until Tirreno. If his was an isolated case within Sky, it would be easier to accept it's just lack of motivation.

not buying it. Kerrison is a cycling mastermind. Why would he allow Porte to "empty himself", whatever that means, and become this useless clown.

He allowed it last year with a number of riders who I wager were not in the A-team.

Porte was supposed to be their next grand tour winner though..

I think we need Hog in here to sort these things out. There are too many strange things going on at sky lately.

Right now it appears they have pulled the plug on everyone except the Dawg. but why?

Am I correct in thinking that all your questions are rhetorical and that your default answer for anything you are claiming not to know is 'doping'?

Doping may well account for many things at Sky, but that doesn't mean it accounts for everything. There are perfectly plausible possibilities as well.

Here is my oppinion, related or not to the clinic.
Last year it was obvious that they tired their team in the spring. It was obvious from the very begining. Only Porte and Kenaugh for Bonascre (they had more riders 1.5 km from top on 2013 Tireno MTF stage) and God with the mercy the next stage. Kyryienka not to mention.
So my guess is that they are takin in slowly this year. Porte, yeah, Porte was suposed to be leader for Giro and he was strong on first mountain stage in Tireno. He was on track. For some reason (he got sick?) he had a form drop, kissed the Giro goodbye and now he is on the Tour program. IMO Porte will be just what he has to be in July.

In the early 18th century my ancestors used Australians as household furniture. Footstools, hatstands, shelving, that kind of thing.

Good to see that 200 years later some use can still be found for them.

that could very well be true. It makes sense that they would try a different approach this year to give Froome more help in the tour. I still find it difficult to believe how they (and Porte in particular) can be this bad though.

Well to be fair Porte's bad form have just been down to illness. Case closed.

So we can expect his best mate to run into some bad form? He's been "ill" recently too.

Again, this hypothesis would be a lot easier to accept if Porte was an isolated case. He isn't.

Agree without illness there would be no excuse as he was on track to Giro glory looking at his TdU performance ;)

Well, it's not like he is worse than Froome was two years ago in this race.

edit: okay perhaps a tad worse, but not really that big of a difference.

So you're saying that I should place a bet that Porte has the Australian version of "badzilla", but will kick *** in the Vuelta?

Last year it was obvious that they tired their team in the spring.

A team dominating stage races until the end of July was tired in April/May? The team was hardly tired at the TdF.

This is their lightest year of racing yet. It will be interesting to see how things play out in July.
