I hate cycling. **** this sport. **** everything to do with this sport. **** that guy and anyone who likes him and defends him.

Why this breakdown? Exciting race with a deserving champion.
I would literally rather have watched a six hour group ride won by Simon Gerrans.

I respect you most of the time, but what the hell? He acts like a tool off the bike, sure, but what was wrong with Sagan's ride today? He could have waited just like Matthews Gerrans Kristoff etc and would have definitely been one of the favourites, but instead he attacked, which is clearly more entertaining. He doesn't hide in the wheels and did it all without a team today. Like it or not, he deserved to win today
I don't give a flying one how he rode and whether he deserved to win today. For the on-bike activities, he did deserve to win today.

But I would rather have had an undeserving victor of a horrible race raced horribly by horrible people than a good race won well by Peter Sagan. If he got away in a highly improbable group of himself, Gerrans, Leipheimer, Froome and Mick freaking Rogers, I'd still want him to come last. There is literally no active cyclist you can name who I wouldn't want to see beat Sagan.

Sounds like it's a good job I didn't watch the speech. I turned off when he sat up knowing he'd got it. The sport is dying to me in front of my eyes.
But why do you hate him so much. Because he is narcissistic? I mean, your anger about him is so huge that there has to be something more

I didn't really follow the news much the last couple months, what did he do again?
Groped a podium girl

You don't put that right.
He sexually assaulted the podium girl, while making it look like a joke. Like it's just what you do, sexually assault women for fun, as if that was the most normal and ok thing to do.

Before the start of the Men's road race, I was really hoping for a spectacular show and a spectacular winner to round out the whole Championship-week on the highest possible note. I think Sagan winning the race was the best possible outcome fulfill that hope.

Stevic? Literally a criminal who's never been punished?
I would root for Stevic. And then if he won I would insist on Chris Kuntz getting a commentary job.

He is a knobhead but on this occasion a deserving knobhead. Chapeau. And the national anthem sounds like a Beirut tune.

My 14 year old daughter is less dramatic than this. And that's saying something.

Why do people always ask LS to explain why they dislike Sagan over and over again, and THEN complain when LS replies? LS is 100% entitled to their opinion, which contrary to what people say is perfectly justified. Leave it be if you don't want to hear about it.

I don't like Sagan's personality one bit, but at least he's a rider of sufficient status to be world champ. So kinda like Hushovd. I can work with this.
I suppose that's the thing. Either we're talking about cycling or we're not.

If we're gonna talk about grievances on a purely personal level, then... well, actually, I'd have nothing to say because I hardly know anything about pro riders' personalities or personal lives. But it has no place here.

Starts in one key, finishes in another plus a step down

This organization seriously can't even play a national anthem right?

As I said, it's understandable that you feel bad with a Sagan win, but when you look at the guys who finished behind, you ought to thank him for it. It would be a disgraceful ending to have the wheelsuckers carousel winning the race. Sporting wise, Sagan totally deserved it. And at the end of the day, cycling wins.

I honestly don't get this hate for 'wheel suckers'.
Cycling isn't a sport about who can attack the most, it's a sport about who can win the most. Some does that by attacking, others do it by staying in the peloton and waiting for the sprint.
Others still do it by a bit of both.

This sums up my thoughts. I can't fault how Sagan performs on the bike for someone of his physical abilities. Today he played his cards 100% perfect and deserves total respect for that. But wearing the Rainbow jersey I just hope he behaves himself off the bike or else that will be cringe-worthy for everyone.

Amazing win by Sagan. Such a strong ride and an awesome guy and champion.

The haters crying a full river in this thread only makes it even better! LOL, keep the tears coming!

Sagan saying he won for the people in the world because there's some stuff going on in Europe. I hate that cringeworthy **** where athletes feel the need to play insightful commentators of world affairs.
He didn't say he "won for" them. He just said he wanted to spare a mention for... well... whatever the hell he was talking about. Top athletes have a big audience hanging onto their words and they have the ability to draw attention to issues. If they want to speak about it, then good for them. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that as long as it's sincere.

And it was pretty admirable for him to try and say that despite not having the English to articulate his thoughts.

Everyone please remember not to insult other members.

And Libertine, your perfectly entitled to your opinions and not wanting Sagan to win. But just as a friendly tip, you may want to tone it down some.

You could at least try to win in style or in an entertaining way. People like Kittel, well they literally have no chance if they don't wait for a sprint. But guys like Matthews and Gerrans have more than enough class to be able to win by attacking, yet never try.

Sure, they're entitled to race the way they think maximises their chances of winning, but I'm certainly not going to root for them any time soon

I don't mind Sagan at all (he's obviously an excellent bike handler/rider), but I wish he'd rather speak Slovak than this patchy English.
