Some good picks there.

Gesink tries really hard but can't stay on the bike.

I don't really think that Gesink belongs in this discussion. I mean, yes, he's frustratingly fragile and that often screws up his main season goals. But he does actually win races regularly. I was actually surprised how many when I went back through his palmares. He has 12 wins (16 if you bother to count his early .2s) at the age of 26.

He's no Contador, JRod, Evans, Valverde or 2012 Wiggins when it comes to picking up races outside his main GT target but he's no Van Den Broeck or Schleck either.

Tiago Machado fits well in the description, what a big disappointment for his portuguese fans.

He's the leader on multiple ocasions and always fails to win something important.

on a napkin:

Lack of ambitions (Kloeden, Monfort etc)

No weapon (flat sprint, uphill sprint, climber, TT'er)

Misguided/wrong focus (Roche etc)

Deep trough, high peak riders (limited opportunities)

Competitive landscape (try wining a flat sprint these days etc)

Getting most wins out of talent: Voeckler

Kolobnev- 2 times second in WC, 3-rd in Olympic Road Race, 2-nd in LBL, 3-rd in Lombardia, 2-nd in San Sebastian, 2-nd and 3-rd places in GP Miguel Indurain, Emilia, 3-rd in GP de Montreal. Won Strade Bianche one time:rolleyes:

How on earth as EBH made this thread?
No idea, I guess some people didn't read the topic question.

EBH has won 41 races over the last 5 years (since he became a pro). That's 8,2 victories in average per season over 5 years. I doubt there are many people in the peloton with statistics like that, probably only Cavendish and Greipel with better stats...

Sure, he doesn't win as big races as he should, but that's a different topic entirely.

Lance Armstrong. He was a world champion in 1993. After 1998, he didn't win or even podium in a single race. Talk about peaking early in your career. I almost feel sorry for the guy.

None other than!

Mark Cavendish

With 8 riders leading him out and pushing him up the hills he's unstoppable! He'd win everything he entered as long as there wasn't a hill/mountain/driveway at the finish line.
