Judo seems to be pretty extreme. Sorry, can't post a gif.
Whoa, those ladies don't play nice, do they? (Sorry, don't know a single thing about judo.)

For those who do know judo - was this a legal move?

Choking is a legal move in judo. I'm no expert, but from several matches that I've watched during Olympics, judoists usually forfeit pretty soon, when they are being choked. But this was a battle for third place, so that might have been a reason. Although I expected the judge to stop the fight, when her lips turned blue. The gif was only the end.

Not going too well for the swimmers...
Otoh; got our second medals yesterday. The "Gold Four" got silver.

Yeah... I know! Two medals is nothing compared to what some of you guys' countries has!
And it's still a long shot to the 10 medals goal...

Well done too to the O'Donovan brothers who got us on the medal board with a silver in the rowing.

I didn't care who won but after reading Hope Solo's comments, I'm delighted the Swedes won.

LOL, someone finally comments on the irony of junk food purveyors sponsoring the Olympics. An anonymous former Olympic athlete is asked if s/he would eat/drink this stuff:

GQ: When you were training, would you consider eating a Quarter Pounder, fries, or a cheeseburger from McDonald’s?

How could one consider eating something that is known to cause serious health issues? Frozen pizza would be better, or even ice cream.

Was a Coke something you would ever have while you were training?

That stuff strips pennies. Why would you drink it?

What about Hershey? They make the chocolate you add to s’mores, but also Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups.

I guess I would consider eating one if there was literally nothing else to eat, if I'd been training for two hours and had another two hours to go.

What did Hope Solo say this time? Another foot in mouth moment for her?

Here.

Thanks for the article. Well, I can't say I am shocked. She's said some thought provoking things recently and also in the past, plus we all heard/read about that domestic violence issue last year. Doesn't come off as a very 'nice' individual, but who am I to judge from afar.

Superb swimmer.

Ledecky is the star of this Olympics.

After 100m you just knew that record was going to go.

Dirado beating Hosszu was the most exciting finish to a race this week.

I don't think I've ever seen someone dominate a singular sporting event like that. She has the 13 fastest times in history? And the next fastest time anybody has ever set is nearly 10 seconds slower than what she just did.

How can one person be that much of an outlier in this day and age

Same here.

Her 8:12 Olympic record in the semis looked a training swim.

Damn, Coxwain in rowing seems like it would have been a great job for me. Favours smaller people, probably one of the few sporting roles where one doesn't have to dope, and you get a medal after everyone rows real hard. (not saying it not real difficult, probably is)
