Wait...are we serious about this? If he was unable to avoid a crash in front of him, he was following too close behind. Surely i'm not the only one that understands this, right?

If he was directly behind, like in a lane of traffic, then yes. But if he fell into his path it is a different matter, more like someone changing lanes or coming off the sidewalk. Anyway the whole matter is very sad.

There's something called safety distance used to avoid this kind of circumstances.

That is sadly a myth nowadays.

As has been said by his friends, team members and others the guy was a stud. He helped other lives as he lost his own by organ donation. RIP
Cycling better wrap it's head around technology, yes it's great for every team to have a multi car follow so a jacket,bottle or wheel is never an issue, but having 100 cars in the caravan is absurd. Leaving the only mobilty to get camera coverage,time checks and race officiation to motorcycles. Yes every fans wants to see every minute of every race but it is not possible to do safely. Overhead shots will have to do when it's a fast downhill or the pack is fat .The sport is desperate for new fans and exciting coverage but having motorcycles mixing w riders all day or passing or following at distances that allow no,zero margin for error is just a bad practice. The number of follow cars and bikes needs to be reduced. Sorry if you crash,puncture or mech out,better luck next race,sorry if you get in a break and the Moto can't get to you for your deserved face time maybe all riders will go single file so that the motorcycle can pass safely, if not oh well

For playback feeds, yes. Live, no. Getting a transmission from a moving source in remote areas that have no existing high speed wireless communication is very different than popping out the SD card and editing it away.
