(Moved this from the Netflix series discussion, as I felt it was more fitting here.)

40 (DKK) a month would indeed be a great price, if that was all I'd have to pay.
However, I'll basically have to pay 199 (DKK) a month for a bunch of crap I have no interest in, + the 40 for the thing I do want to buy.
Why can't the sport package be a stand-alone package?
199? Where is that suddenly coming from?

Also, the additional content on MAX is not crap unlike Discovery+, but yeah, I get the frustration if you never watch TV series at all.

Im kind of neutral on it as it doesnt really impact me as I already get Discovery+ via TNT sports, as part of a broadband deal, and Eurosport UK came via Sky and we dont get HBO/Max whatever its called in the UK anyway, all their shows end up on Sky, so its all very complicated, and some consolidation wouldnt go amiss. isnt it next year when Eurosport itself will disappear and become TNT or Discovery sports.

I only had the Eurosport player years back when they started putting WWT races on there instead of showing them on Eurosport. but for some daft reason they never set it up as an annual sub, so it lasted one year then stopped, and I went with GCN+ instead till their demise.

it is weird though reading some of coverage from journalists who last week were bemoaning GCN shutting the website part down, and then now complaining that they have to pay more to get coverage, and its like dont you realise the two things are kind of linked, the GCN website would have kept going if it made money, or people paid for it. and cycling coverage has a cost associated with it, its not a free lunch, its annoying theyre forcing you to buy stuff you might not want with it, those discovery documentaries really are trash tv, but the bills have to be paid somehow, and the sport wont grow without the tv coverage and the money it brings in.

Discovery + is being swallowed up by MAX...

Really annoying as I'm no longer UK based but been using Eurosport Player via VPN for years. Planned to switch to GCN+ but that got canned so stuck with ES. Now, I'll probably sign up to discovery+ with their discount code until the end of the year and see how it goes. Still cheaper than Zwift after their price bump.

Unless, I'm missing something the Standard Plan (UK) covers all cycling on Eurosport which I'll get for 50% of what I'm paying Eurosport now and then from 2025 the cost is the same that I pay Eurosport now. I guess the downside is not ad-free?

some times you get ads, sometimes you don't. & the website is so terrible, you'll be like 'hang on, you guys are able to watch this on eurosport? How come i can't find it?'

How fun for someone who refuses to get a smart TV and have watched it on Eurosport 1 and Eurosport 2 and who refuses monthly subscriptions.

Yeah but that is the ad supported version. Like the article says if you want ad free, like Eurosport player offers, it's almost double that.

"One of the novelties: customers must first take out a basic subscription (about 5.99 euros) and on top of that a Sport add-on (additional subscription for all sports broadcasts from HBO Max, at 5 euros) must close to stream sport. This will cost almost 11 euros per month for Dutch and Belgian viewers; converted 132 euros per year.

A premium subscription to HBO Max (without advertising, on four devices to view) can also be done, but will already cost 14 euros per month, where the Sport subscription is added to 5 euros per month. Converted: 19 euros per month and 228 euros per year."
I can live with the ads.

I am just saying you have to compare it with what is currently on offer. Eurosport player currently has ad free streams for the price.

So Eurosport.de is now after the tour de France also not available anymore.

Made now an abo at discovery+ for 5,99 Euro per month. At eurosport it was always possible to watch the races on demand, if you couldn´t watch them live. Do you know, if this alternative also exists with discovery+ or can you only watch the races live?

You can watch them on demand of course, and you can start it from the beginning of the broadcast even if it hasn't finished yet.

And now, RIP Discovery+

E-mail I have just received:
From 28 February, Sports content, including Eurosport 1 & 2, will no longer be included in your plan. From your next renewal on or after 28 February, you will continue to renew on the Basic plan unless you cancel in your account before that renewal.

If your plan was previously ad-free in on-demand content, on-demand content in the Basic plan contains ads.

To continue to access sports content, you can either upgrade your plan to the Premium (incl. TNT Sports) plan before 28 February 2025

So that's up from £6.99 to £30.99 per month
