I wouldn't say it's amazing... given it was the Italians that took him down, I can understand why he wouldn't be interested in racing there.

yeah italians banned him long before he got banned worldwide, had avoid a tour that raced in italy too as they would have arrested him riding in italy.

only started racing their again last year.

I think that Pozzovivo did everything right, especially considering that last 20 or so kilometers are exactly opposite of what diminutive climber like him is good at.

It is just bad luck that he was caught.

felt pozz should have played the cards behind he had like 1% chance in way he rode of beating valverde, he had let him tire himself out then hope or let his team mates try in sprint.

Yes. It's not as if they are races that need to invite foreign Conti teams, so 1.1 status has no advantages. That said they are already quite a big deal - in the sense that major riders care about winning them. Particularly SB, but Valverde poured a hell of a lot into today too.

Controversial opinion: This is a better racing double bill than the Omloop - KBK. Although the Omloop is also underrated in UCI status.

Its a good race, but I didn't see milliions of fans out there on the course. Italy has 2 out of 5 monuments, 1 out of 3 gts, another week long stage race in the world tour, and in one day races a further 5 1.HC races. Plenty of places out there who would care a lot more for a 1.HC race.

World Tour status can be a curse too, if you have a good race thats doing fine you don't really need it, least cycling is still thriving in italy, spain has me very worried, has no outstanding one day race, its grand tour it seems is up for sale and its one week races have had some iffy movements to stay alive

Anyone know of any links to extended video of the race (not just the final km's)?

Finally got around to watching the finish, looked like a impressive win by Valverde. That's the Valverde I want to see, the one that breaks away, does the work, and out sprints his break companion. Much better then the Valverde that sits, sucks wheel, and waits for the sprint.

still think he would have been caught had he been alone, ag2r will be kicking themselves. Valverde come back in form for Lombardia? Is he thinking of even doing san remo now?

No, It's Pippo just beacuse his name is Filippo, and usually we short it as Pippo... It doesn't mean clown or anything else..

Also Filippo Inzaghi is usually called Pippo.

The red nose was just to show it was indeed a joke, nothing referred to Pozzato.

Also Nocentini joked by tweeting "he took off the hands from the bars during the sprint but he deserve it".
