Only the pro’s could do the Koppenberg today. A garbage truck made it too muddy/slippery. Saw a video of all the teams struggling and walking. Remco and a teammate went to the top. If it’s still wet during the race, the stronger riders better be in a small group already. First positions are key there.

Summary of the wet ride: it’s still hard. Insane how the riders will fly on Sunday.

CX is tiny groups also, so if one rider has to run up it everyone else can get round. The chain reaction of one person stepping off will probably have the biggest impact here if they're wet.
I think that’s the biggest difference-/in cross you don’t get a reduced peloton of 30-50 riders bunched together entering the climb. Even guys with the best technique (there a classic video of MVdP riding in this fashion) slide from side to side on wet cobbles, causing other riders behind to slow turn aside too much. Inevitably some rider puts a foot down and the entire bunch is stopped behind. Of course, this puts even more pressure for teams to be at the front entering the climb.

What exactly do you mean? Video?
He went down the Koppenberg and made the sides fall down and with the rain that became mud. Other cars also had problems going down because of how slippery it suddenly went. So only pro riders could try while they were working on it. Most of them had to stop and walk further.
The cleaned all the cobbles yesterday, and had to do it again today. They said the fire department was in charge of this.

The fight for position before the second Kwaremont will be tremendous. Fifty riders will have a sports director shouting in their earpiece to be among the first ten. Everybody knows that's where the race will blow open.
