Kinda dumb though. They showed how the entire peloton fully intended to cross during a red light.
The ones that got held up only did so cause police went into the road to stop them.
Madness. Imagine a train passing through when the peloton is riding across.
It's not cause you are racing you should stop thinking.

Mind you the race coordinators should have just warned and stopped the peloton ahead of time.
To be fair between redlight and barreer going down you have a good 20 seconds, and another 30 seconds after it's down before train passes. So unless someone falls and break his hip, no one can get hit.

they can close roads. not suggesting trains be stopped but doesn't seem much to ask to keep an any railway activity. real amateur hour.
I'm just gonna assume your a guy who has no idea of how the actual world works.
There are rules in place for exactly this type of situation, riders broke the rules. *** happens. But during races they won't close down the *** railway service...
The only amateurs in that situation were the idiots running a red light and the people on this forum somehow not understanding how trains work
And you can't blame the race organisers, this in Belgium. There are railroads all over the place and this is a long race.

There are plenty of people who aren't paying attention or think they got time and end up less than happy.
It's not a good look regardless that the peloton just continued like nothing was happening.

why do you keep mentioning closing the railway system? that's not being suggested. the officials should have known a train was coming and made appropriate precautions. Total clowns.

Well if you get stuck between barrers because you ignored the red, AND stay there, it's darwin award for you sorry. Even if you have 3 kids on the backsit, you can just drive through the barrers, it's not super tough (for that exact reason).
And if you go through barrer already down you are suicidal.

If you are between the barriers. Obviously you get out of dodge asap. Most of the peloton saw it was red before they reached the actual crossing , They had time to stop in a proper fashion that would not have resulted in a major crash/pile-up and decided to continue riding.

If the comisarie had the train table for the crossing, the race could've been stopped in time.
Easy to track trains in real time on the internet. The organizers didn't know this? Perhaps they didn't even know there was a railway crossing. Pretty pathetic really.

They obviously had. There was police there for a reason. Not just volunteers

There have been many incidents with people still wanting to cross after the lights and/or barriers were active, so it's incredibly bad optics if people see professional cyclists do exactly that what many advertisements campaigns have warned not to do.

No that's what you're implying, and I tell you they can't because they can't predict how fast the riders will start.

Is it that hard to organize this race?
Checking the whole route, make sure no train is arriving, when riders are crossing.
They should have known a train was coming and neutralised the race. It's not rocket science you can see the data on the internet in real time. Amateur hour.
