I would be very happy indeed to see Mads win it, one of my favorites. But then there is Wout; though he has a monument, he doesn't have a COBBLED monument.. and he's Belgian... :p
I don't care for either Wout or Mads but I would be thrilled if either won if it means Pog doesn't.

Remco didn't catch Pogacar and MVP because Pogacar accelerated on mariaborrestraat when Remco was only 3" down. It's clear Remco was very close to his limit while Pogacar was still fresh. Even later, Pogacar was pulling to maintain Remco distanced. Remco didn't have the legs and this is very obvious.

And Pogacar was also helped by 2 moto's. Helping him to gap Remco. Maybe he does not increase the gap as much without them. Maybe that smaller gap creates an opening.

I believe that it would have been possible for MVDP to ride this smarter. Hope that Remco makes it back. Now odds are Pogacar still easily dispatches Remco on the Kwaremont and slightly gaps MVDP there. But without the moto's helping a tiny bit+ MVDP riding it more smartly there is at least a 1% - 10% chance of a different outcome imo by Remco and MVDP helping each other against Pogacar. Now I never doubted this was gonna be a Pogacar win.

Maybe MVDP does not help Pogacar at all or only barely, and Remco comes back and they become a trio. Maybe Remco attacks before the Kwaremont and Pogacar needs to waste some energy. maybe MVDP has saved some energy by not helping Pogacar as much and maybe Pogacar has wasted some energy by riding after Remco. Maybe that's enough to reduce the difference between Pogacar and MVDP on that final Kwaremont ascend. I know that's a lot of maybe. And i too saw Pogacar was clearly the strongest. But i felt that once again the moto's and MVDP helped him by not riding smart.

Now there was 0% chance of Pogacar losing Flanders today save for a mechanical on the Kwaremont during the last climb.

Stuyven must have got up relatively quickly. But he was not on the timing for 3rd Kwarement, so probably took a spare bike.
That‘s probably on the Koppenberg descent, the last left hand turn before the right handers towards the National road

It was a brutal, honest and predictable race. UAE made it even harder than last year by already breaking things up 103 km before the finish. On a tough course with aggressive racing the strongest guys end up in front.

Pogacar has now won four monuments in a row, which is unprecedented. MvdP could have played it more tactically by not doing turns, but that's not in his nature. Evenepoel did an impressive race for a debutant, and might become the next Belgian winner. Van Aert and Pedersen were once again the guys just behind the titans; for them it seems impossible to win a monument, in spite of their tenacity.

We're witnessing some of the strongest one-day racers of all time, and that should be treasured. The atmosphere was there again as well, with the crowd packed along the roads. The Tour of Flanders is always a special experience.

Just when Remco is getting close the *** Moto is back in front of Pogi and VDP...
Yes, because they wanted the shot with the two in front and Evenepoel behind them. When the gap grew, the motorbikes moved away. And they came back, when he closed in once more. And so it continued until he ran out of gas.

Not that it would have changed the podium, but the motos remove the last piece of suspense in races like this.

Indeed! It's actually bad for television from a race excitement POV, maybe the producers understand that at some point as well. But my hopes aren't high.

RvV deserves a lot more than a predictable outcome. Masses of fans, everybodys favorite riders are involved, tough weather conditions just aren't enough. The race must have a level of race drama to offer good entertainment. Everybody expected Poggi to just ride away on Kwaremont and he did. Not much fun. Pretty dull.

Mathieu would do the same, hadn't Pogi showed up.

I watched the race with someone who never watches cycling and that person told me the race was boring. The only exciting part being wether Remco would make it back or not to Pogacar and MVDP. Imagine if that person watched Strade Bianchi... . I was also asked why I was typing on my laptop every now and then instead of just watching the race.
