The surprising thing is that they worked together to stay away. Fortunately they didn't start staring at each other. On the hills they were equally strong, so a close sprint was the only logical outcome.
It looks like Van Aert's season is finally starting to take some toll, while Van der Poel is getting back near his bestLike I said when they were on the Koppenberg, Van Aert didn't have a super day.
He starts his sprint a bit too late, because he wasn't confident enough and was on the limit.
Would have prefered to see someone else win, but at least Van Aert didn't win.
Another unreal sprint by Kristoff after a hard race.
He launched his effort right after the 500m to go banner.
I'll never understand that way of thinking. The "at least [X] didn't win" mentality.

In better form than when? He pulled out a dramatic show of strength just five days ago suggesting if he had been there today he'd have been in pretty good form.
I'm just glad it's over. If this is the Boonen-Cancellara rivalry of the 2020s, I might as well be watching trains at the Tour if today is anything to go by.
I watch a fair bit of CX too, fondly remember Mathieu's first world title.. Doesn't save this race for meI have no idea how it was as an 'outsider' to watch this race, though I can imagine it was kinda boring. But as someone who has been watching these 2 race each other basically week in week out for the past 6-7 years, this was one hell of a tense final 25kprobably a dream scenario for every cx fan out there (except most would have probably preferred another outcome)

They gave us the brilliant duel that you'd wish for, but would've been more beautiful without Alaphilippe's crash.
Kudos to Mathieu and Wout. I'm quite sure Van Aert lost because he let Van der Poel choose how to start the sprint. A bit too late and a bit to slow to reach his top speed and power output in time to beat the explosiveness.
Kudos to Oliver, 4th best man in the race.
GVA, I missed you buddy.
Nope. Still don't get it.
