He was tryna avoid the ditch... it is just really unfortunate what happened.

We see riders jumping on and off crosswalks all the time. Cutting corners.

Most of the riders in the peloton has done something similar. Does something similar in every race. Just not with these catastrophic consequences.

He is of course to blame and will most likely receive some sort of punishment, but there should not be a witch hunt out for the guy. He will probably have a tough time as it is now, for some time.

If you have rules for safety (you must stay on the road), and then hardly ever apply them, then riders will consider the rule to be optional, and will do what is unsafe. Every commissaire who has not applied the rule is partially responsible for that accident. Correct to DQ Maciejuk, but I wouldn't be in favour of further punishment. But Maciejuk wasn't the only rider who left the race road there.
