why would he care?? he already won it in 2005

Contador already won the Giro in 2008, why would he care to win it again?

EDIT: I thought it was obvious, but a word of warning: ironi was applied.

I guess the ironi was lost with you. Ofc nobody would ever want to win a KoM in the same race more than once ever. Virenque and Jalabert certainly never took pride in winning the polka more than once. (Since it seems to be needed: ironi is applied yet again)

he was completely out of shape there and still:

1 Franco Pellizotti (Ita) Liquigas 40.26 (19.142 km/h)
2 Emanuele Sella (Ita) CSF Group Navigare 0.06
3 Gilberto Simoni (Ita) Serramenti PVC Diquigiovanni-Androni Giocattoli 0.17
4 Alberto Contador Velasco (Spa) Astana 0.22
5 Riccardo Riccò (Ita) Saunier Duval - Scott 0.30
6 José Rujano Guillen (Ven) Caisse d'Epargne 0.49
7 Marzio Bruseghin (Ita) Lampre 1.04
8 Domenico Pozzovivo (Ita) CSF Group Navigare 1.43
9 Danilo Di Luca (Ita) LPR Brakes 1.45
10 Denis Menchov (Rus) Rabobank 1.49

everyone in front of him was/is clinic material. the guy is an incredible piece of talent even out of shape a mountain itt is his true specialty. I can't imagine what he will do in this years giro mountain itt, he will throw with minutes
Look what Garzelli did in last year's Giro. He was out of shape and he actually won the mountain TT.

Garzelli will win the Giro!!!1!

yeah because they knew they couldn't win the final gc (anymore). then a kom is excellent 2nd prize.

Maybe Rujano ought to make the same conclusion then

Anyways, your a wrong about Virenque atleast. He won his 3rd KoM in 1996 finishing 3rd overall, and he won his 4th KoM in 1997 finishing 2nd overall.

But before we get off track too much, my overall point was just that he, Rujano, can still get some nice results, but personally dont see him as a GT winner.

The first 5 kilometers are mostly false flat and the climb itself levels off toward the end. It's not terribly long and it's not a pure mountain TT.

If a pure climber wins this ITT, it won't be by much. Contador is the clear favorite.

you obvously didn't see those 90s tours of virenque because he was never close to winning the tour. so he attacked and went for kom as well. still great rider but not comparable to a rider today fully focussed on winning a gt.

the first 5km dips. Is a dip, and not really too difficult.
The last 7 km avergaes 8-9%. Having some steep sections (max 14%). Will average almost 11% for a few km. Last Km only a 2-3% average maybe. Does have a final hundred meters or so which kicks up slighty (not much tho. Maybe 6%)

This is what we expect from South American riders. They are great in the high mountains but extremely unreliable on any other terrain.

Unreliable does not mean always terrible, in fact quite the opposite. Duarte and Serpa were great today, and we know that they are both excellent riders. Still, I fully expect them to at some point lose bags of time on stages that don't trouble the other GC contenders.

2005 Rujano was 8 minutes behind Il Falco after stage 11...

He also gained a lot of time I'n breaks and freedom as a result.
He can't win this.

As for duarte I'm willing to put my head out there and say this guy will lose s lot of time I'n the 3rd week. He has never done a gt, it will be difficult

He got in breaks on the big mountain stage and got a lot of freedom cos no-one had any idea who he was. They do now, even if the chances of him getting anywhere near the podium are slim, they won't gift him 5 minutes back in a break.

I wouldn't discount Duarte so quickly. Sure, with all the ridiculous hype here it's almost hard to take a South-American rider seriously, but that guy is insanely talented, has quickly adapted to the Euopean pro peloton, doesn't have most of the usual Colombian problems (can handle a hard-man's stage like today, not a terrible bike handler), and is a really good climber. If he doesn't attack on inopportune moments, he could be in the mix for a long time. Of course, I don't know how he can handle 3 weeks, but he does have a lot of potential.
