Rujano can win this Giro, believes Savio

Bad positioning aside, he went backwards once the race split up. He was with Nibbles at one stage.

It looked like he was going to try and go past Nibali and then he was very quickly a long way behind

Maybe Zoncolan didn't say much about his abilities on the steep stuff afterall. From the CN ticker:

"Jose Rujano was widely expected to challenge on the Zoncolan yesterday, but he suffered from the knock in the finale and finished 10th. According to Davide Cassani of RAI, Rujano's crisi di fame came about partly because he finds it difficult to consume energy gels."

If he is to get back time in a breakaway, I guess he will try on the Finestre/Sestriere stage. I think I've read somewhere that he's really looking forward to that one.

He wasn't that badly positioned...

While most to all of the other contenders were near the front, Rujano was somewhere near the back but that could have been evidence that he was having a bad day. Still finishing 10th on the Zoncolan while having a bad day should be considered a plus rather than a minus. It definitely could've been worse-he could finished with Sastre!

again what a performance.now he's sixth fuccin unbelievable.on marmolada he killed everybody,absolutely insane ride.watch out for the uphill itt and finestre,he can move up in the gc,rujanito is not done yet.

By the way, yesterday RAI's Savoldelli was going around to check the weights of the top contenders and when he went to Androni team car he got the exact weight (it was something like 48.9kgs) and Savoldelli with a smile said "...I guess they check him every morning".
Probably they are worried he doesnt control his diet.

No joke! He tends to hunger knock cuz He doesnt eat!
But Today He was just amazing... Drilling it in Fedaia when He saw Lo Squalo, Anton and Menchov in troubles...
Now He is 6th in GC! boooooyaaaaa!!!
He is pulling a 2005 all over the place! and this time w/o breakaways!! so much more respect for him! I can see those who are not hardcore cycling fans asking themselves "Who the heck is this guy?? Is just awesome!"

even in these cold and wet conditions(which his little body hates) he's shining.still i have my doubts about his performance on those 18-22 % ramps,he struggle on those.but on finestre,my goodness that's perfect for him,he will fly over there.

I dont see him leaving Savio and besides, even Hazuki says Rujao needs to be preparing for something for like a year to do well.

If he did Vuelta i fear it would be like his 06 and 08 Giros.

Was in "Processo alla tappa" in RAI... was made inmediatly after Rujano finished the TT... was short but was cool!

It is debatable whether Rujano is among the three best climbers at this year's Giro. It is one thing to have a good stage or two while fading on other stages. It is another to have to defend your GC position by performing every single day. Factoring in the riders who are targeting the Tour and the Vuelta it might be more accurate if he placed himself among the top ten in the world.

Without the Strade Bianche, Rujano would be in second on GC.

Of course you have to consider the time he's gained working with or following Contador.

I like AC but I can't help but wonder what this race would have been like without him. Don't know that it would have happened but it would have been pretty cool to see Rujano in the Maglia Rosa in Milan.

This Giro has been EPIC for me... Contador winning and showing why He's the best, etc...
But w/o him would have been EPIC too! Rujano's nature is attack from far and put a killer tempo till the finish line, that has not changed but instead going alone He has had the company of Alberto... I'm afraid that in the majority of MTF everyone would have marked each other until 2 or 3km before the finish then We could have seen Michele attacking while Nibs put his diesel to work, also Igor would have attacked much more from far to get his win... The only exception is Zoncolan, there the selection just happens, and In the QUEEN stage Lampre and Liquigas would have controlled the race till Fedaia where Nibs would have attacked in the descent to have a gap before Gardeccia...
In this Giro We have had a lot of attacks from the main guns "far" and FAR AWAY from the finish... I'm not disappointed this Giro is covering all my expectations!
