Saddle selection for negating Sit bone Cysts.

Hello and Good day!

I have developed two sit bone cysts otherwise known as ischial bursitis or cyclist nodules. One on each side directly over the sitbones. I had to have them surgically removed as no matter how much time off the saddle I gave them to heal they would return..

So now I am shopping for a new seat.. The seat I have is a high quality specialized and was purchased to fit my Sit Bone separation distance.. I think a 165 if I remember correctly.

Generally ride perhaps a hundred miles a week in 5 or 6 sessions. My riding position perhaps a 45 degree angle position.. So definitely not sitting up right but not laying strait out either. About middle of the road.

Question.. Can these be caused by the seat perhaps being just a bit to narrow and I should have gone to the next width up? Or is padding the issue.

I am shopping for a new seat. I ride and Epic Specialized Hardtail.. Most of my riding is road and easy trails.. 67 years old now, so no more falls in theory.

I am hoping someone with experience with this issue and the dynamics of saddle configuration that can lead me to the correct type/size of seat so I don't ever have to get these things again..

Thank you so much for your time and help..

Barry

The most comfortable saddle that I've used is the 'old school' Brooks B72 . I used it (years ago) on a 2-day (100 miles per day) ride on single speed balloon tire coaster brake Rollfast (with handle bar streamers). I have 2 of them, 1 on the Rollfast and the other on an old 10-speed .
