3rd Olympic title for Cancellara. :p

Time to remove Sanchez' name from all races he was declared winner of. No messing around with HGH. He doped and the fact is proven. He's got to pay.

Good day for cycling. :) Weird I just said on the Teuns thread that "there's no secret that time does not reveal" (Racine quote).

2 days before the Vuelta? A warning to others?
He's an unusually big fish to use as a warning though. Maybe he's been pushing the boundaries for too long and they got fed up with him.

He is not an unusually big fish. He is an old guy and perfect "small fish" to get busted as he is pretty much retired. So again, they always only catch the small fish from a conti teams or an older guy.

BTW, when was the last time they caught a really big fish?

Cookson using Sanchez to prove testing works.

Why was this not just added to UCI's hidden deep on their website PDF of positives like most of the others?

UCI still running the sport for its own ends.

Does Ricco count? He had two stages wins halfway through the tour when he was popped.

What a pity I was a great fan, but not a surprise for me today. Other people with similar trayectories as Igor Anton, never showed a similar level than before biopasport was well sat up. But Samu showed sometimes that level: an stage in basque country, close in GC, 4th in Lieje,...
It looks like he doped but just for a few obetives and thinking he was taking the minimun risk.

One of the old school less, but in his case is a very bad new for cycling,,, as Olimpic champion,,,as exapmple for his junior team, his son,...I lived a Vuelta a Burgos very cose to his relatives, personaly is hard for me, but I dont have any mercy for dopers, even this inteligent rider.

GHRP not HGH. Only a subtle difference for sure, but unlike with HGH, you could maybe make the argument that at his age, he was just using it to restore his body to normal production levels of growth hormone. A bit like riders using inhalers to restore 'normal' respiratory function.

Not sure if he should be stripped of all career results for this one test. It's not like Merckx, for example, who was caught using the drugs du jour multiple times.

Poor guy, started doping at the end of his career cause he couldn't keep up. Sad way to go.
It get's worse. This was his only time. Those eyes don't lie. Unluckiest doper of all time.

Thanks for correcting.

However why always refer to Merckx whenever I'm posting something about doping. I know that Merckx also only tested positive by the end of his career when he was no longer at the top of his form but still stimul is not comparable to growth hormone at all.

Well it's just that Merckx is the biggest fish of them all. If we're talking about stripping everything from Sanchez's palmares for this one failure, then inevitably it's going to be asked why not Merckx as well - who failed numerous tests for the drugs of his day. The same way Armstrong had his results stripped I guess and no-one else really did from that era (unless they were caught at the time) - if we're stripping results for failed drug tests; then best to start with the biggest fish, otherwise it's just picking on the little guys.

Again, Merckx failed one drug test that is legally valid, the 1977 one and the biggest fish are the ones who test positive for the most efficient substances of them all. Stimul is hardly comparable to growth hormone. Compare likes and likes...

And indeed, Armstrong was stripped of only his Tour of France results as though only that mattered. He still has his World Championship title, which is disgraceful towards single-day greats. Plus nobody else got the same sanction for the same incriminated substances. More disgrace.

OK, I will. Cheating=Cheating. Moral relativism does not work when it comes to drugs in sport.

Contador was after Ricco.

Ah, right. I don't count Contador as a huge bust because there was some controversy over it and Contador wasn't gone too long. He tested positive in the tour 2010, then the rode the Giro and Tour in 2011. So basically Contador missed the Tour/Giro in 2012, and that's it. Yes, he was stripped of his titles, but a lot of fans still acknowledge him as the winner.

So basically Contador was suspended for one year. That's a relatively minor punishment.
