If it's between cofidis and SS, Cofidis will surely get it. Moncoutié will be good if he peaks for Le Tour. He's always good when he peaks for the vuelta so... And ASO would love another frenchie to win a jersey and maybe a stage

exactly. people here clearly have no clue what this is about. moncoutie has stated he will do the tour one more time and moncoutie with chavanel and voeckler are the most popular french riders now moreau is gone so no chance they will be left out.

the Paradox

The UCI’s hierarchy of teams for 2011 was announced last Autumn. Removing the 18 ProTeams (of which there’s just one French team, Ag2r La Mondiale) and also taking out Pegasus Sports, which was unable to secure a ProTeam licence, leaves the following: :

17, Geox-TMC
19, Cofidis Le Crédit en ligne
21, FDJ
22, Saur-Sojasun
24, Skil-Shimano
25, Acqua e Sapone
26, Colnago-CSF Inox
27, Europcar
28, Androni Giocattoli
29, Topsport Vlaanderen-Mercator
30, Veranda's Willems-Accent
31, Team Type 1
32, CCC Polsat Polkowice
33, Bretagne-Schuller
34, Farnese Vini - Neri Sottoli
35, Landbouwkrediet
36, UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling
37, Team Netapp
38, Team SpiderTech powered by C10
39, Caja Rural
40, Colombia Es Pasion-Café de Colombia
41, De Rosa-Ceramica Flamina

From the 18 ProTeams only 15 have an automatic invite 'if' not getteing in to trouble on the 4 ethics.

All have Pro Continental licences and are thus eligible for selection. Of those, French teams Cofidis, FDJ and Europcar seem to be strong contenders, with the latter being ranked outside the top 25 in the UCI’s hierarchy but including French favourite Thomas Voeckler, who won the French championship last year, took a stage in the Tour de France and also won the GP Cycliste de Quebec.

Many will also see Geox-TMC as a likely contender, given that it includes 2010 podium-finisher Denis Menchov and 2008 Tour winner Carlos Sastre. French team Saur-Sojasun and Skil-Shimano are also positioned well to challenge, but Pescheux’s prediction of surprises and disappointments hints that some of these will be unhappy at the end of January.

Haha, I was thinking the same thing. No chance of Garmin, HTC, and BMC will be left out, and I don't think RadioShack will either, unless the **** is about to hit the fan wrt to RS and LA.

Bruyneel was speaking specifically about every major international race except the 27 events of the new UCI WorldTour — but he sees the battle to get that decision overturned as only the first part of a campaign by the world’s top teams to obtain a much larger role in how pro cycling is run.

Really? Johan ? ...

“Our biggest frustration,” Bruyneel continued, “is that it’s an arbitrary decision; it’s been taken without any consensus from us.

ASO will do the same end of January ... !

“To reiterate,” Bruyneel said, “the position of the teams is very clear and very firm. If you look at the history of cycling there’s never been a union for teams. There’s still no teams union when it really comes to being together and united. And the history has proven that teams have been very weak. The powerful organizations — the UCI and certain others — know very well that the teams are not united. Sometimes they use that weakness to enforce certain things.

Really? Where? Johan ? ...

Kinda sucks they're doing this so early - teams don't have a chance to show themselves.

Geox, Cofidis, Europcar + FDJ for wildcards? Maybe it'll be CCC Polsat, Team Type 1, Topsport Vlaanderen + Bretagne Schuller if they really want to surprise :p

I think it's good that it's so early this year. It will help the other GTs allocate wildcards and help the pro-conti teams manage their resources to have the best teams possible for whatever GTs they get invited to.

The expected wildcards would be Geox and 3 French teams. I guess anything other than that would be a surprise. Have they not agreed to invite the 18 Pro teams? Maybe I just read McQuaid saying they did which isn't exactly the same thing.

In order to further the globalisation of the sport ASO will decide to give the wild cards to CCC Polsat Polkowice, Team Netapp, Team SpiderTech powered by C10 and Colombia Es Pasion-Café de Colombia.

Just realised that haven't Androni got a place for every GT if they want it?

I hope Androni take the Tour wildcard, and Rujano can show some great climbing form.

Lol!

Rujano is going to be a bit tired after contending for that Giro.

I think they threw out the former agreement that would have guaranteed them a spot.

No Geox was already kind of expected. Still, Zomegnan and Guillén will hope that the team holds together so they can have full strength Menchov and Sastre at their races.

Its called the Tour de FRANCE for a reason

It the Tour de FRANCE and I'm very happy its all wildcard teasm are from France. It will be attack after attack race strategy.

Its bad enough Saur got flicked. Geox should have know they were toast and look at the management of the team. Lots of questions.

BUT its the Tour de FRANCE. All four wildcards should go to French teams. Its not called the "Tour de best teams in the world".
