Well-written? Tinley deserves the maillot jaune in the mixed metaphor Olympics.

Very true. His mixed metaphors will never become clichés since they will not likely be used again.

I found the article intriguing, especially since it lays blame on the "UCI, the organizers of the Tour de France, the cycling media, public and every commercial team or sponsor that has invested a single Euro into cycling."

The article's main contribution I appreciated is how to understand Landis. What it fails to do is contrast him with Armstrong. It is almost as if Landis was set up to be the patsy. He landed atop the podium at the TdF and then his world came crashing down. Did Armstrong retire to make way for this necessary sacrifice?

Another omission in the article is it fails to address Armstrong's exploitation of the whole system as egregious, and offensive without precedent, IMO. The margin between the top place in pro cycling and the runner ups is not large from a performance standpoint. But the differences in economic outcome are enormous. The present ****storm could have been avoided if Armstrong had merely throne Landis a bone.

I am beginning to agree with Adam Myerson's "Burn it Down" sentiment.

Yeah, agree. Last line he used "conscious" instead of conscience. Illustrative of the confusion of the piece.

Did'nt U here? Grammer and speling is died. Internet ROOLZ!!1!

I'll admit my focus moves rapidly away when I see such crap usage in should-be-mainstream writing. It gets to the point where I don't care what the so-called writing is saying, all I'm thinking is: "Use the goddamn subjunctive!" Sad but true.

I used to try to read Tinley's articles in Triathlete, but I eventually gave up, and this article on Landis is an example of why -- it's nothing more than a bunch of rambling, disconnected anecdotes and cliches strung together.

Tinley was a great triathlete, and might be a fun guy to hang around with, but he's no philosopher or keen observer of current events. As far as I can tell, he has nothing new to say on Landis.

Completely agree with this. Why didn't he just phone up the ToC guy and say, make room for Landis' team. Or, better, Armstrong should've hired Landis, given him an office and let him shuffle UCI paperwork at $100k/year just to keep his mouth shut.

What is it? Friends close, enemies closer?
