Should You Wear Team Kits?

I have the Rabo and T-Mobile kits because I'm a big fan of Giant bikes (I own two bikes myself, one for race, one for TT). And yes I wear them. They are just jerseys of teams. Nothing wrong with supporting your teams.

On the hand, if someone wears the rainbow jersey and any champion jersey (including TdF yellow, Giro pink, etc.), I don't know....

.....What, don't you know??? Whether they're a nice person or not? Whether they are a "poseur" or not? (and how does that affect YOU if they are?) As I said before, none of us should feel ok that we feel we have to judge anybody else solely by the clothes they are wearing.
What if you busted your rear end on the road one day, and the first one to pull up to your bleeding mess was a guy in full World Championship kit. He then proceeded to help you off the road, made a call to get you some help, and stayed with you 'til you were properly taken care of. What would you think then? Humble pie, eh? This thread never ceases being silly. I myself wear ANY kit I choose, World Championship kit included, I loved it when Tom Boonen won it. I'm 6'3" and I'm a bad ***. NOBODY talks Cr** to my face. Keep passing judgements, I hope it does your Soul some good.

It's a thread that is perfectly tailored to the internet, because of the anonymity that the internet allows. Absolutely useless thread, filled with absolutely worthless opinions. I wear what I want, when I want to. It's my money, my world. As long as I'm not hurting anybody, it's none of anybody's business what I choose to wear, or what motivates me to wear any article of clothing that I choose to wear. The only thing that has to be "earned" is the money to purchase the kits that are available through any retailer, locally or online. Sorry, but every once in a while, this thread needs this kind of wake up call. Now, carry on with your persistent blathering, if you must.

I just caved and bought a new kit. I have been riding with an old discovery channel jersey which i really do hate, but couldn't afford a new one, but I finally said screw it and bought a Garmin Sharp jersey. Wanted a Liquigas one, but they were sold out in my size 😱 Aww well, I like Garmin!

If I stashed every piece of kit relating to teams previously involved in doping then I would be down to very few bit of team kit to wear! Personally i like my old Saunier Duval gear...I'm sure they were clean😉 but i could always wear my Cofidis kit...oh wait...or maybe my old Telecom kit...hmm maybe not...or, or, or...maybe I'm stuck with my club jersey!

Could never bring myself to go out in team kit, club kit yes, pro team kit no.

Each to there own and no harm in it. Although I did see someone out in a yellow jersey recently, that is wrong!

Top tip: Don't wear the pro kit and attend a pro race. People will think you're part of the race!

When I was backstage at the Olympics, this random dude rocked up all decked out in the Colombian national kit. Carbon bike, shaved legs etc. He saw Paulo Bettini and started talking to him, at which point 2 dozen people descended on him thinking he was an actual rider and they were waving cameras etc at him, all completely ignoring Bettini!

I was the only who knew he wasn't a rider - Not many 6'5 black Colombian cyclists around.

It was quite a funny moment, thankfully the dude was a classy guy and pointed out he was a nobody and the real hero was Bettini... cue they all merged on him en masse for photos/autographs.

I was at a track carnival (more of a club night that anyone was welcome to come to) and there was a girl riding in an Aussie national champs jacket, she was about 14 and obviously not a national champion and was wearing it because it was warm and she thought it looked cool. The commentator for the night basically spent the whole of her race bagging her out for wearing it and then proceeded to tell everyone to never buy or wear a champions kit. The girl came off after the race, her first race of the night, in tears, hearing everything the commentator said, packed up her gear, got changed and left. I presume she will never go back to that carnival, one that's held every Friday night.

While I personally would never wear any champions kit if it gets someone on a bike and they enjoy wearing it who cares? It's pretty easy to pick the people who've won the jerseys from people who haven't.

Hey I agree with you. You can wear whatever you want. However, you have to realize that others can think whatever they want. Racers (including former racers like myself) will think you are a poser. It doesn't mean I hate you or think you are a bad person. It just means I think you are a Fred, and that's not the worst thing in the world.

The same goes for wearing gang colors. You can wear whatever you want. If you decide to wear Blood Red and walk down the center of Crip Boulevard, you are free to do so. However people can think whatever they want, and there might be consequences. 😀

I'm British but I'm no fan of Wiggo and don't like Team Sky. Imagine my face when my elderly parents presented me with my birthday gift of a Team Sky kit. To make it even worse it's the '12 kit not the uber cool Rapha '13 one.

I really wanted to say 'Can you not change it for a Liqiuqas or Garmin? Instead I said 'Oh wow! How kind and considerate of you! Super!' How could I tell the truth? They were ever so proud.

Moral of the story: Not all Freds wear the kit out of choice...

And yes I am still annoyed they didn't get me any Rapha kit.

give it a year or 2 and it will be rebellious abd cool. Have to say never liked any of the lance team kits RS is one of he worst, however............ the treks they used back in USPS do look raher good

Adidas = Run DMC = Cool
Rapha = Jumped up overpriced wannabees = V uncool

I dont like Sky the company so wouldnt waer any of it, but the adidas cycling gear has always seemed quite good to me

When I no longer a part of any cycling club I always wear team clothing, when I am a huge fan of Bianchi I use the clothing attacched to one of the Bianchis I own. Barloworld, Liquigas or Androni Giocattoli.
I search a old Bianchi of Team Alessio-Bianchi EV4 or ML3 anyone who wants to
sell a complete bike of that team or frame in size 57 send me a message =)
