Should You Wear Team Kits?

As a guitarist this Thread reminds me of similar discussions you hear about who should be allowed to play expensive guitars. The snobby attitude of people who thought a parent buying their child a Fender rather than a Squier was wrong is very reminisent of the attitudes here.

As a guitarist, road cyclist and rugby player all this is a bunch of rubbish!

People who try and set thier standards on everybody else is so asinine!! If you have an expensive or cheap guitar play it, enjoy it. If you got a rainbow jersey or yellow etc, and it gets you out on your bike, enjoy it. If you never played rugby but you want to support your team, for the Tri - Nations or soon RWC, etc, wear it!!!

Endurance sports like cycling can be attractive to a certain kind of psychology. People who are highly conscientious, goal-driven, slightly anal retentive and moderately OCD tend to figure quite often in bunches. There are arbitrary rules for such people and they like to stick to them.

Which is perfectly fine, as long as the non-comformist among them isn't given a lot of crap for their choices.

I didn't really mean to get stuck into MacRoadie, I realise I was pushing my view onto him, which is hypocritical of me. He's a good poster and I said those things in jest. The dogmatic attitude of some cyclists I've come across on all manner of things irks me sometimes.

watching the finale of the Eneco stage, I saw several kids running about in the finish area asking for biddons - 2 in full vacansoliel kit chasing greipel.
good on 'em.
no different to seeing some kid in full football kit, and great to see them enjoying the sport

Kids aren't subject to the kit rules. They can wear whatever they like and not attract any ridicule for it.

A couple of weekends ago I saw a bunch of four riders stopped at the lights near my place and three had world champ jerseys and the fourth had a belgian champ jersey.

To most people who saw them they'd just look like four cyclists, a few would have recognised the jerseys but wouldn't have cared, and a couple may have shown their disdain for it but I wonder if you realise just how little they'd actually care.

Y'know at one point it would have driven me craZy, and I won't do it, but at least they were hopefully having fun with friends and out getting some great exercise on a bike!....

I cannot understand all these lame and asinine negative comments over a persons stupid piece of clothing!!!

For God sakes, instead thinking negative over someone elses clothing choices that doesn't match your opinions, why don't you applaud them for doing something you have in common with them; being out riding their bikes doing something they love as you do!

Be supportive of the sport we all love to do and enjoy whether in a Club jersey, Pro Team jersey, World Champ jersey , miss matched or naked.

It all good!!!!

Not ridiculous at all. Let them wear what they want. I got a Cervelo kit from my dad as a surprise and I often wear it even though I have neutral and my own team kit.

seems that my 30euro euskaltel jersey is working for visibility - in 5kms I got tooted and also got some comment about cadel yelled at me...

then again the 4WD that missed me by inches is either colourblind or she just didn't know the width of her vehicle (or was on the phone)

The question is, do people co-ordinate their kits? Lately I've noticed a lot of guys with some weird colour combinations.

Think I may be going a tad far with this as next week I will have a black bike with yellow decals to go with my new club kit which is black with yellow text/logos.
That was a happy co-incidence, but I think I might've overdone it as the bike is going to have yellow bars and saddle and I have yellow shoes

It does my head in all this should/shouldn't wear team kits, the word is full of individuals shouldn't they be free to wear what they like, when they like and ride where they like.
I wear what I like and frankly anyone who doesn't like it can do one!

The other day I couldn't wear my 1994 Lotto jersey, so it was time to try to put on my old 1995 Lampre-Panaria jersey for the first time in years. What do you know, it still was a good fit. It made me remarkably easy to spot, too - although that's not always a plus when you're going out with casual riders who don't really follow cycling - all they can see is a jersey with lots of bright pink.

I have similar doubts over wearing football jerseys.

My reasoning is that if I am engaged in a sport then it makes sense to wear appropriate clothing, ie. when I run I wear a football shirt or similar.
Don't wear them any other time.

Only bothers me if you get a really chubby person wearing sports clothing. Just looks so ridiculous

I guess I've actually changed my mind a little bit.

I'd much rather have someone wearing a full team kit while behaving properly, than someone wearing cheap cycling clothes while behaving like a total ****-face.
Though I'd say the worst would be someone wearing full team kit while behaving like a ****-face would be worst. Intended or not, there is a risk that some people would associate said behaviour to the team.

Shortly put: It's not what you wear, it's how you behave.
