sometimes could be fun
i had the australia team jersey and bibs climbing the izoard, talking in french to some guys and saying I am italian
they looked

I rode both the Flanders and Roubaix sportives in my Aus team jersey (McEwen's 06) this year. The number of cheers from the sidelines as well as riders striking up conversations about Robbie McEwen was amazing.
One old Belgian bloke waved me down by the Bosberg to tell me that he lived next door to Robbie!

I have been discussing this with a lot of American Domestic riders, if you want cycling to be on par with other sports like Baseball and Basketball, then we need to put rider names on all kits like Sky does and we need to get over this feeling that its lame or fanboyish to wear a kit. How many Manchester United kits are sold every year? Think about how much money 3rd tier teams could earn by actually selling a few thousand kits?

Mercatone Uno did put the riders' names on their jerseys during the 1998 Tour. And in there are photos from the '50s (and maybe earlier) of riders with their names on the front of their jerseys.

Astana did this in 10 with Contador, Vino etc the problem was the one you buy ends up being a generic blank one with no name.

Saw loads of riders at the weekend in team kit, as I was, had no problem with it at all. Saw the Saxo Bank Swiss Champion and world champs jersey and just thought they both looked cool, not that it was the crime of the century :D

Yea the names need to stay on the kits when you purchase them. Give riders a cut.

It looks really goofy when you see a grown man riding in pro team kit. Sorry, but it just does.

I was passed by a guy on an ITT bike today: 2010 Saxo Bank jersey, 2011 HTC-Highroad shorts, and white compression socks (?) covering the entire lower legs.
He's free to ride around like that, but I have to say it looked something between not-so-good and ridiculous.

That's the problem. Get over it. Do you want cycling to progress as a professional sport?

What football team to you support and have you ever purchased a kit?

I think pro kit is an excellent thing. If you support a team, or in most cases a particular rider then you should be able to wear their kit and be proud of it. And i feel the same goes for wearing national/worldchampionship jerseys if your favourite rider happens to be one.
How many of those who say it's wrong to wear a team kit if you haven't earned them ride a nice bike, with a lovely groupset and flash wheels just like the pros do? Have you earned them? or should you be riding a non descript bike with non districpt components?
At the end of the day who cares what your wear or ride just aslong as you are out on your bike and having a good time (just as long as you at least have a helmet).

After seeing a few riders on my way to work I thought, instead of just the Pro Kit why not the woman's team Kit! Now that would be at least interesting on its own. See a pack of guys riding along wearing all the Pro women's team kits, of course you must have the Vanderkitten kit. :D The one that would fail would be the HTC kit which is too much like the men's version. Might have to be its own thread ;)

Do they make the Vanderkitten kit in men's sizes?

I support my alma mater by wearing Michigan apparel, but I've never purchased a kit. I go for function. Bike kits are total advertising platforms. They should pay me to do their advertising for them if they want me to wear their (tacky) billboards.

But then, I'm not much of a roadie. I'm a hardcore commuter and a tourist who rides a lot. I want to project less "invulnerable road warrior," and more "you break it, you buy it m***********."

I wear a couple pro-team kits, but only because I'm cheap when it comes to clothes and I've paid less for a bibshort/jersey combo that isn't too flashy (2010 saxo bank) than I did for some Castelli Bibshorts. $60, to be precise, end of season clearance. Point, laugh, I don't care; it's just something comfortable to ride in which also saved me some money.

Anyway Ive 1 Protour top the Unibet with the ? on it. Bought it to show support for the team when getting smashed by both the ASO and UCI in their power struggle.

You do realize that your bike itself, especially if its a relatively recently made one, is an advertising platform, as is any item of cycling gear you own if it has the manufacturer's name or logo displayed for all to see. So your promoting these items you're wearing without getting paid for it. Of course unless you magic marker over all the names on your gear and black tape over the cycling manufacturer names on your bike.

No idea, probably some triathlete.
At least I've never seen a "cycling-only" cyclist ride an ITT bike (unless he's a pro training on it, but then they wouldn't manoeuver through the Copenhagen rush hour).

Cant beat the Chinese Jerseys and bibs, cheaper than buying a normal jersey and shorts from most shops. So far ive got FDJ, Leopard Trek, Caisse D'epargne, Mercatone, Finnish national. £30 bibs and jersey delivered, bargain.

Earlier today I got overtaken by a guy in the old CSC kit (from the beginning of 2008, before they became CSC-Saxo Bank.). :D I betcha he got it when that was the actual team-kit, because, honestly; I think it's kinda hard to buy a "new-old" jersey.

This also reminds me of something which I might always have mentioned but... well...
During GT (mainly TdF) you tend to see a lot of people in team- and classification kits. In my family, if we fx see a guy in a yellow jersey, we'll go He's kinda off course.
