Hitch,

I skipped to the end of this thread, so maybe this was discussed before. Can he ride a flat time trial? Sure he won the uphill prologue TT, but can he duke it out with the other up and comers?

I'm sure we'll find out today.

Henao lost the Vuelta a Colombia on the time trial this year and i hear he lost the Vuelta Juventudt on the tt twice as well so not really no.

So its confirmed.

Cyclings silent prodigy joins perhaps its loudest team.

Whatever Sky are paying him this is an awesome deal truly worth the risks. If he fails so what, so have so many others. But if Henao rises to the challenge, answers the call, Sky may have found themselves a true great.

Worth the risk, especially for a team which prioritises grand tours and the particularly the Tour over everything else.

question is what do they do next year. Probably test him out in a few of the early season races, Oman, GP Lugano that kind of thing.

Then if Wiggins really is going for the Giro does Henao come to the Giro as help or do Sky launch a Colombian double assault on the Tour?

Riding the Giro as first Grand Tour without any pressure would be best. If all goes well: prepare for the Vuelta with some pressure.

actually i'm pretty sure wiggins said and he really wants to do le tour again in 2012.
henao will go straight to il giro,it will be indeed a mistake to push him in the first season but i think he will do something special in la corsa rosa 2012

Wiggins is looking at how the combination of the Vuelta with the world time trial two weeks later goes this year, as that is a similar structure to the Tour/Olympic Time Trial.

Then they looking at wether the target is the Giro or the Tour. So if Wiggins does well in the worlds tt then the assumption will be tour, but if at the worlds hes burned out then it would point towards the giro.

On Henao, they may let him settle into a full seasons european racing before testing him in the Vuelta, with Uran getting leadership role in the Tour if wiggins doesnt ride. At least that would be the sensible option.

Then again, depends how Sergio feels. If he is feeling in great form, who knows, might ride the Giro. But i doubt it somehow.

Depends when he comes to Europe and how quickly he settles in I guess. There was talk of him heading over early, maybe post Utah to discuss race schedules and settle in. Sky do a very long training camp over the winter.

Shame they cant take him as a Stagiare for the italian autumn races.

How will Cav & Boasson carve up races between them.

Personally I expect Eddy to circumvent the whole discussion by winning the Giro Lombardia by 15 minutes.

I'll throw my hat in saying Henao is a future real deal. I mean, it's not an elite field, but he is leading the Tour of Utah at the moment, and at such an early age.

Not leading anymore :p
The TT proved his weakness, but there's still a tough climb to come. Hope remains!!

I reckon Henao could win Lombardia even next year. He and Uran would be a good double pronged attack at LBL and at Amstel Gold they will also have Gerrans. However you can be sure Sky will not try burn him out and will back him to the hilt to ensure confidence. Sky will have a super team next year with Cav/ Wiggins/ EBH/ Geraint/ Uran ( if Rogers/ Gerrans don't go )/ sprinters

Now I dond't watch the stage in Colorado, and I'm sorry to speculate this because I love Henao. But if a guy loses 4 seconds on a mountain stage to Levi and cannot follow a Levi attack, then he's going to take a few years to make a mark on the EU scene.

Please prove me wrong.

He's got the potential to do really well, I think. I hope that Sky don't put too much pressure on him in the first year, and that they don't burn him out supporting Wiggins in the mountains. I think that they'll have the sense to bring him on gradually, though.

Levi in US>Levi in Europe. Two totally different riders. We can continue the discussion as to why in the clinic.
Henao will be a star.

Im not sure they'll burn him out by making him ride much slower tempo in the mountains than hes used to ;)

Henao's mistake was marking Andy Schleck when he first attacked. If he was as familiar with Andy as most of us are he would've known that Andy does little to nothing in races that don't take place in the last week in April and the month of July. Otherwise for the most part he should be ignored or at best leave the chasing to those that don't know any better. Henao reeled Andy in pretty quickly when he should have been marking Leipheimer and Frank Schleck, the Schleck brother who does compete year round.
I think Henao represented himself well for a rider of his age and experience racing versus the elite of the sport.

I'm just as excited as others here about the potential he's shown and I don't think it is too much of a leap to think that he could make his presence known next year by winning a stage here or there in week long stage races and maybe in a grand tour also. I also think they should let him ride the Vuelta first before any other grand tour but not with any pressure. He seems to be wise and resourceful beyond his years.

I'm rarely impressed by Leipheimer, but yesterday was pretty exciting. A strong move that he held to the finish. I had to make sure it wasn't some other Shack rider when he launched off the front.:)

A > B and B > C then A > C.
Nice logic. I wish it worked in cycling so that way I would not loose too much money.

Levi dropped Cadel and Frank Schleck therefore Levi is much better than Cadel + Frank.

Racing in Europe = Racing in America

Doping tests frequency in US = Doping tests frequency in Tour de France

Racing at altitude = racing at sea level

1 week long Tour = 3 week Tour

Racing in your home country = racing outside of your country thousands of miles away.

Experienced rider = Non experienced rider.

Puff, should I go on.

It's a good thing Team Sky realized they have to be flexible and move away from their "Northern Europeans+former colonies+token Italians" thing (that includes Jan Anton Pijl).
I think/hope the Urán+Henao combo is going to be good for animating future GTs.
