Whats happening to Porte? As far as i remember he turned down Green edge as they wanted to concentrate on sprints/classics for the first couple of years. He thought he would go to sky and learn about GCs. Is he looking to move on next year?

I believe Porte has extended with SKY for 2 more seasons as well as Froome. I think SKY will lose Uran. Now he would be a rider I would sign him to my team!

Henao's contract is up at the end of this year.

He is riding the Vuelta as leader though right?

henao has already extended for 3 years with promise to lead gt's and have his first cousin sebastian to joijn next year

How good is Sebastian Henao?

I saw he performed very well in the Vuelta Colombia as a 2nd year U23 rider. ANd he was pretty consistant there. But dont know that much about him.

Doubt he's going anywhere for the next couple years. Definitely not leaving Sky next year, as he's been promised the Giro.

Yeah I want to see how it goes with porte. If he manages to win Giro next year, then what? asking for TDF leadership? well over froome's dead body i guess. Now he can buddy buddy with froome, you slap my assre I slap yours, but when he finally got his GT win, I wonder if he wants to play doormat for Froome every TDF? Co-Leader? sure.. we know how it goes. Froome already said, he would like to win TDF as many as he can. So I don't think there is room for Co-leader. We'll see which one is important: getting yellow shirt or friendship?

They can be friends as well as competitors on different teams. If another team offers Porte a huge contract and leadership for the TdF, I imagine he'd take it.

It's not like the old duo of Lance and Hincapie, where Hincapie was an awesome domestique but culdn't have won it - most likely.

Porte ccould likely put up a good scrap for a win next year. Of course, if he is allowed to lead in Italy, then his contract value goes up even more for 2015.
Does anyone know when he is up to re-sign?

That's my point. Porte has to leave sky if he wants to be the TDF leader. I'm not saying they won't be friend if they are in different team. (ex: sanchez and alberto). I'm saying that if he stays with sky, how does he choose between his career and his friendship? Does he want to be second fiddle to Froome his buddy? With his form right now he is most likely the favorite for next year giro, and he might as well win it. That's what I mean. He stays with sky right now for the next 2 years but what happen if his career takes off after he wins Giro next year?

Team Sky's budget for 2012 was £21.4 million ($34.5m / €24.5m)

if they don't have a 4.5mil contador style stone than they can afford a lot of good stuff with that money (see Nieve replacing Uran)

That is a ridiculous budget and it shows in the riders and results.

i guess 2014 budget will be even higher, after 2nd TdF win.

but not always budget = results, will have to wait and see

It's just a farce to have one team that can buy every good rider that enters the transfer market.

Edit: with sky's 2013 budget Euskaltel could be sponsored for 3 years if not 4.

and in 2015, when the fat check for useles now Wiggins stops, the team should be even stronger.

Yeah hoping he retires next year (or this) so that they can get someone decent for that money.

Euskaltel's costs were 10 million euro a year I thought, so that would be 2.5 then.

I wonder if its just for the road team though, the budget could also include their track activities

Only Sky did not just buy every good rider. Thats what they are determined to say but the truth is all their top 3 riders were worth a lot less when sky bought them.

Remember that Cavendish left at the end of 2012 (salary 3 million euros) along with Rogers and Flecha who would have been earning good money. Their 2013 expenditure will have most likely been lower than 2012. It will go up next year though with the new contracts for Froome, Porte and Henao and with the very expensive Wiggins and EBH still on the books.

When they entered the market, they definitely did buy themselves some very expensive riders. Boasson Hagen was still the next big thing back then, and they had to buy Wiggo out of his contract with Garmin.

Yes, they hit the jackpot with Froome, but that doesn't mean that they developed from a modest starting point.
