We said it last year, Aru was and is NOT a GT contender, but everybody laughed.

So being 24 and placing 3rd and 5th in your first year of going for GC doesn't qualify as being a GC contender? Just because he's had a bad day on the Mortirolo, he's still lying in 2nd place

Trofimov makes his move...

...and it's gone.
After Hejsedal had pulled him for most of the climb and was eating.
And now he has dropped him and is trying to catch the top 3. ARGH!

I think he'll catch them too.
And perhaps winning. The most anti-climatic victory on such a great stage.
That won't happen. Landa is going for the stage and won't let Trofimov get a gap

Missed the whole stage. So these 3 just dropped everyone else?

Contador punctured on the descent, Astana piled on the front, Contador was 50s back at the start of the Mortirolo. Blew by everyone, even Aru. Landa gave up on Aru and followed. Kruijswijk was already ahead.

Thanks, guys. Sounds like I'm going to have to download later.

Such a shame Landa/Kruijswijk had to wait for Aru for so long.

They took almost 2 minutes on Aru in half the Mortirolo, so it would have been a lot harder to get back to Landa on his own.

Obviously it wouldn't have changed the podium in Milan, but it would have shown just how deep Contador could go.

Taking back 50 seconds on today's Aru isn't as impressive as it looked like it would be when we started the Mortirolo.

Yeah, seeing how Trofimov, Hesjedal who went solo for entire stage are all there it shows that the pace wasn't high at all.
Its just Aru that cracked.
Wouldn't be surprised if Landa was 2 minutes up the road if he didn't have to play a nanny for Aru

For some people here it seems unless you can beat Contador you're not a GT contender.

I reckon Aru is probably one of the top 10 GT riders of this moment, but he's not top 4 (Contador/Froome/Nibali/Quintana) or even that close to them.

I guess it's how you define "contender". If one of the top 4 is in a race Aru won't win it, just like Porte never will. But in most races he'll either podium, or at the very least be in the top 5 in the end.

The real question is whether he can continue to grow and keep the effort he had in the first 10 days or so for 3 weeks, if he can he could become a contender in the future, especially in a few years, when the likes of Contador will retire.

Landa to attack at 15% ramp. Otherwise Astana DS should be fired
LOL!!

Relax man. they are over the top together.

Meant on Aprica :D
Ooops!!

Ok. I forgot there was a steep section.
Happens to the best of us,
I have a feeling though that the final will be really anti-climatic with a sprint from 5 rider group :/

You definitely have to do that. It's a very good stage, with many fascinating goings on. Whoever wins today will be remembered for quite a while.

And of course it will give Contador's win Milan a level of glory that he wouldn't have gotten from just riding in with Aru and Landa, which would probably have happened if they hadn't tried something.

Edit: Flat for Aru, though obviously not that critical a moment.
