Iban Mayo in 2004 Dauphine Libere achieved incredible VAM of 1820 m/h for the last 16 km@8.5% of Mt Ventoux. As we all know It was a result achieved by an exceptional climber in so called doping era. Such an effort on Monte Grappa would result in less than 51 minutes of climbing. Personally I rather don't expect anything over 1700 m/h of VAM (about 54 and half minutes of climbing) and it is likely that the best rider will climb Monte Grappa in about 55 minutes. It means the total time of about 1 hour and 5 minutes (for Nairo Quintana ;)).

Would've thought Veikkanen would be TT champ. Weird that Finland doesn't really have any other big riders when you think about the surrounding countries.

Majka plan to start on a TT bike and change bike before it goes up in the sky.

I think we can expect several of the top 10 to do this.

Ok , i'll have to eat my words, Maika said to change bikes. Don't really undertsand that.

if the mechanic and the rider know how to do it, they can gain 10 seconds or so. he has to go with the time trial bike at the point where he goes at 20 kmph or so and then jump of it. and the mechanic should already run with his road bike. perfect delivery

This.

The bike change to occur on the first steep section, I reckon. Km 9 should fit the bill.

finaldn have many riders, of which one was a very godo timetrialist called matti helminen (caught on doping) and in scandinivian countries, especially sweden there is only 1 discipline of cycling and that is timetrialing. in finland this si simialr so they ahve good timetrialists but usually nothing else (same for sweden)

Jos Van Emden has stopped during his time trial, and has asked his girlfriend to marry him. She's said yes, of course, so congratulations to the pair of them.
