it will be a snoozefest until 3 km to go....
you shouldn't even bother to write previews when the riders give so little back

There is now a lot to fight for, the riders know they have to gain time on other riders for good GC placings.

I doubt there will be much going on before the final climb, but the final climb will be very very tough.

Maglia Rossa - Points classification
1) Mark Cavendish (GBr) Sky Procycling110 pts
2) Joaquim Rodriguez Oliver (Spa) Katusha Team 109

That would be so harsh on Cav, he would certainly have got it if not for the crashes.
He now has to win tomorows stage and hope for the best on stage 19 & 20 as I dont think he can go for the intermediates there.

Of course he also has his own problems to worry about in the mountains....:(

I got an idea, why not communicate with each other about who makes which stage preview?

This is the best stage of this Giro.

Basso and Pozzo to come to the fore. Ideally for basso,he has to be in pink at the end of the stage. It's not safe to leave everything until the penultimate stage.

Liquigas takes control all day. They reduce the peloton to a group of 20 or so into the last climb. When the last domestique is done, Basso starts grinding at the front. No one else attacks and Basso frequently stops to look a bit around before he starts grinding again. A group of 6-10 riders will be together into the last kilometer when Rodriguez will attack and put about 20 seconds into everyone else.

There, now you don't have to watch the stage! There's only one man who can change that outcome...Pozzovivo. Let's hope for good weather.

I will brazenly predict there will be another suicide break that contains the day's winner. While the break is being run-down to barely 30 seconds lead, your scenario is playing out among the GC contenders.

I think a couple of people are missing the fact that the peloton would have climbed a considerable higher amount on this stage than on today's stage and that there is not downhill at the end which wont bring the favorites together and it will mean the favorites wont be hesitant to attack on the final climb.

they will be hesitant to attack because they are all afraid to be countered and dropped. thank you clean cycling and no-needle policy

They wont attack but they will be dropped nevertheless by a stronger Basso and Liquigas than today, who will have more to work with thanks to the stage layout.

Considering Basso almost outsprinted Rodriguez yesterday, he is my favorite for the stage win.

I'm assuming Hitch is saving himself for Saturday and Stelvio, with an effort measuring 9+.

I've booked the weekend off work, so he better make it good.

Unless somebody can produce a Kiryienka scale performance, I doubt it. Liquigas will be keeping the pace high for Basso.

not un the downghils though and why would basso care for stagewin. no timebonusses. incredibly stupid mistake by rcs again

Could see Pozzovivo taking it if he's as good as he was today. Basso will be on the podium at least. other than that IDK.

He won't care for the win, but they'll keep the pace high to prevent attacks.

I'll go Scarponi.

I suppose Kreuziger, Tiralongo and Rujano are all free to get in the break now, but I wouldn't bet on them being able to pull it off. Maybe Tiralongo.

Tiralongo is still 8th in the GC so there's no way he'd be allowed in a breakaway.
