When Quintana attacked, Froome was stuck behind Majka (who was pulling off). Since the gap between Froome and NQ has remained around 15 seconds, I bet there would be no daylight between the two if Froome hadn't got caught.

if quintana felt so good, why did he not follow nibali? I just don't understand

Because if Quintana would have followed Nibali, Froome and Poels would have chased the break down hard all the way up the last two climbs. Certainly wouldn't have let the gap grow out to 2 minutes. Quintana would have been hung out to dry.

Because Poels could chase Quintana down? Yeah... no.
This is pretty basic racing tactics - domestiques chase down stronger riders all the time. Quintana has to pace his effort over 50km, Poels doesn't so can go harder. Ergo, he could chase him down.

Yes. It's clear Quintana cannot sustain a higher average pace than Froome.

Attacking earlier would have achieved nothing.

Froome dawg should chill out and conserve for tomorrow. Not a big deal to lose a minute here.

Commentators hilarious. "Froome's team crumbled all around him." Umm, how many teams have guys left at the front at this point? Big boy time.
