It is not. Being gifted a stagewin as an overall contender is the biggest shame you could feel imo. It's another story if there was an agreement, or if the rider was in a long breakaway maybe. But in this situation, I would just slam the brakes if the guy behind me was trying to give me the stage.

Agree with this, well maybe not the slam the brakes on someone part, ;) but the general don't want to be gifted anything sentiment.

how many times does gc riders do it though. By generally I mena things like Tiralongo attacking and AC catching up and gives him the victory for old times sake, or Rujano workingwith AC and gets a stage. If every gc rider gave another gc rider a stage every damn time they reached the top of a mountain, I would agree, but this doesn't really happen much

guess that was effectively the first stage of TDF 2015.

expected froome to succeed, but AC seemed to be quite comfortable following. froome should have gone for it properly 7-8ks to go when valverde was on his wheel and AC a bit behind. that was his best chance I'd say.

The Skybots are apoplectic that Contador followed basic cycling strategy.

:D

Seriously, wut do these numnutz expect? AC to attack Froome at the base of the climb until he blows up??? He's got a minute plus and no idea what Froome has left in the tank. If the roles were reversed the tactics would have been identical. Froome sprinted for a lousy 2" bonus. Ok, I will attack at 700 meters, get 16" plus a 4" bonus. This isn't some sort of d!ck measuring contest, he's racing to win the overall. being the race leader affords an advantage.

Froome fans are just sour that he can't beat AC this year and are doing their best to apologism.

Some of you really are far more interested in the childish he-said she-said he-was-mean-to-my-guy ******** than you are in the actual racing.

Contador tryed and cracked Froome.

Get a grip ' Contador got the jersey and it give no sense to ride with your head under your arm, when all the egg's already are in your basket.

its pro-cycling, not a soap-opera..

Tried and cracked.. lol, had to laugh. Have you ever ridden a bike?

Not really that hard to outride someone after you can follow him for 8km and ride outside of the wind :D

Its not necassary the riders. I have a lot of disrespect for some of their fans though.

Well, Froome's relative fail is being mocked he is said to be placed at his place. Do you find it mature?

I can't believe people are giving out about Contador's tactics. This is a race. You do everything to win.

At the end of the day very few people would have thought contadorwould be in this position three weeks ago. We're witnessing the best cyclist of the last fifteen years defy odds and win a GT with such a quality field of opponents whilst slightly injured. This is one of the greatest displays of all time

Ride outside the wind? They were going about 16km/h for most of it.

Truth is, Contador had no need to do what he did. He backstabbed Chris. He ignored one of the most basic rules: if you don't pull on a climb, and you don't need the stage win, you sure as hell don't attack the one who dragged you the entire climb. Congrats to him, though.

Come on mate, they need o to fight and do it to the finish..

Im not fund of giving gifts ' they can do at Christmas, not when I'm watching..

Sad that so many look at it like its a soap opera, where it need to make sense .. its professionel road racing, fight for it to the end..

would have been a joke to such a big stage if Contador had feelt that he can give gifts ewen thow he clearly are stronger then what he in that Picture had delivered by giving a gift-stage..

Contador had already show Froome the ultimate respect by claiming him as the number one contender in his carrier.

if Froome want a stage, he need to take it like everybody else.(and im pretty sure, that Froome wouldnt like it if Contador had made a mokery of him and giving him his win..

The climb is very steep, and there was tailwind, drag didn't matter that much.

Smart racing by Contador, ok it wasn't difficult to figure out. Just let Sky and Froome do all the work and take the win in the end.

Congrats to Contador with the win.

Is Kirby grieving? :D

I'm a little annoyed personally apart from maybe two days crashes have robbed us of seeing perhaps two of maybe the GT riders ever going at it both in peak condition. I mean the TDF would have been epic:mad:

Also, Contador has gifted wins when the winner could be a potential ally later on. With Schleck he had the chaingate incident, and he tried but couldn't drop him on the Tourmalet.

Whats the use of gifting a stage win to your biggest rival? "Hey Chris, you can have the stage if you promise to gift me the Tour next year"
