I read it as Visma showing that they only have stage hunting as a realistic goal. Get Campenarts there, and maybe you can work against MVDP, because right now, everyone else in that break has to know he is the hammer and they are the nails.
Visma put Yates in a hilly stage, he has no chance of winning this IMO.

I'm not sure if this is controlling to keep them close or controlling to make sure the attacks stop and to let the gap go out slowly.

Vingegaard has nice memories from last year when he was in Polka dots. Hopefully today he gets some better ones.

Keen UAE tempo observers will be able to see if this is the kind of 'pace a bit so nobody else goes then let the gap grow a lot' pull, or if it's a 'keep the gap quite close so someone else gets interested and we can blame them for chasing the break' sort of day.
