one way to help with the heat issue is to shave your head. A lot of heat can be shed through the head. Levi & Horner have an advantage over schleck in this area.

when it’s hot one way to look at a rider’s natural ability to cool down (to dump unused energy/heat) would be to understand their gross efficiency. there are several threads in the clinic on the subject.

say two riders are climbing side by side and generate the same watt per kilogramme. rider A efficiency is 22% and rider B efficiency is 24%.

rider A has to dump 78% of his metabolic heat into a 35 C environment and rider B has to dump 76%.

i’m not making any conclusions but wouldn‘t, intuitively speaking, rider B climbing job seem easier since he has to shed less heat relatively speaking ?
Sure, that makes sense. Gross efficiency and surface area. However do we actually have any idea about the GC favourites gross efficiency? The only rider who's gross efficiency I know anything about is LA and that study was I believe more than a bit questionable.

so, this is the break of the day established, then? nice to be able to see the start of the stage, but by now I can probably get out of the house for an hour or two without missing much. pity taaramae was caught, he's the only one of the attackers today that's in my fantasy team. I miss txurruka.

Wow, just found out from Paul that Lance does a lot of cyclocross during the winter...that is what was responsible for him not going down in the crash earlier:rolleyes:

I'm watching Eurosport with Harman & Kelly, who don't seem biased towards anyone in paerticular, I can imagine the Lance haters getting a bit hot under the collar about Sherwin & Liggett. I normally catch them on the highlights programme, they've always been pretty pro Armstrong.

Our coverage hasn't started here in Australia yet so does anyone have anymore info on the crash and Cadel?

Does he have only road rash or are they suspecting something broken?

How about the Pineau? Just road rash or something broken?

Anyone else go down?

Thanks

I think he's ok, just rash, although I'm sure he'll be a bit sore.

No reports of broken bones, just road rash and bruised egos
