Reminds me of freedivers hyperventilating before going down to lower the carbon dioxite levels in their bloodstream, so that they feel the urge to breath much later.

On Wednesday, Pog fired one bullet: bang, bang. Vingo caught the bullet and shoved it up Pog's ass. Now we hear some riders are deliberately poisoning themselves with CO. This has to be the goat (greatest of all tours).

That's CO2 though?

And wasn't rebreathing a thing a while back? Which is Carbon Dioxide
I think you're right, what we exhale is actually CO2, and not CO?

But what do the divers add to their tanks - maybe even some/lots of nitrogen? (This is getting very marginal gains, better be careful with what you inhale.)

Inhaled air is about 0.03% CO2, exhaled about 4%

Contents of a diver's tank vary from 'normal air' (78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen) to up to 36%, sometimes 40%, O2, with the nitrogen sometime replaced, in whole or in part, by helium.

It was quite funny listening to ex-pros and other commentators talking about saving energy ahead of the big mountains, then UAE put Yates in the break (while losing Ayuso), Visma burn the team securing another 2nd place sprint for Wout, everyone races at a crazy pace all day. Who needs to worry about boring stuff like saving energy, this is NuCycling™!

It's certainly more entertaining than a careful, calculated approach, I'll give it that.
The guy that has pinged my radar is Abrahamsen. Guy is in just about every break and trying to get in every break. Claiming a lot of KoM's and intermediate sprints. Getting spit out the back of the peloton and catching back on. Getting spit out the peloton again and catching back on and then leading the sprinters in for the last 5k of the stage. Heck he even pulled away from the peloton in the last 4 or 5k today.

but he gained 20kg, we're told (again and again)

has anyone actually found a picture of this man when he was 20kg lighter? I have a feeling he's referring to his weight in the u15 division

iu

A 19 year old Abrahamsen. TV2 Norway had an article where he said he went up 15 kg (from 60 to 75kg) as his career was stagnating. I suppose he went the "Froome skinny" route to beefed up puncheur (the guy did win the Brussels Classic this year in front of Girmay no less).

I suppse that explains some of Israel PT's recent boast in races (apart from Froome Dawg obviously) with turbo boosting altitude camps but even so, MvdP says it's insane watts ...

Mike Teunissen, who was on a lead-out duty for green jersey wearer Biniam Girmay, expressed his surprise about the stage to the NOS. "The first hour and a half was not normal. I was still talking to Mathieu when he was caught. He said: 'I'm riding insane wattages here and it's unbelievable that they're still coming back at us. We've been riding for it the whole time'."
Something more then CO is going on here.

as long as it is not 200hp, fair play

However, if it turns out teams are working with Scuderia Ferrari not Michele Ferrari, then the sport faces an existential crisis
