I read Steve Hogg's posts and my head just spins.

I doubt that most of us could find a bike fitter who seems to have thought about it as much as Steve has.

They work for some but not everyone some want float some want fixed and some want wide platform some wand narrow platform.

so many to choose from.

I had speedplay for 1 week and sold them on ebay I got my money back

I use SPD SL with fixed red cleat with my ankles turned out locked in place I do that for hip injurys because it alters the hip angle when pedaling If I dont do that me pattelar will track .

Speedplay dont offer as much to work with if you want shimms in for varus or valgus wedge.

If Steve Hogg thinks Speedplay is better fine. The customer is the final say and they say more Look than Speedplay. More Shimano than Speedplay. More Mavic than Speedplay.

Can't anyone here read. Steve did not say that he thought Speedplay were the best pedals, he said he thought they were THE BEST PEDALS FOR FITTING BECAUSE THEY OFFERED THE MOST OPTIONS TO THE FITTER.

I work at a shop that really pushes SP. I seriously considered them for a long time. But I eventually went with Time RXS. I had the Time Equipes back in the 80s and loved them. I like play in a pedal, but with a recentering characteristic like the Times have. Plus, despite the fact that SP users don't mind the care and maintanance their pedals require, it's still more than other pedals.

I ride custom shoes with a mid foot cleat position. I use XTR 970pedals on both my road and xc race bikes. They are durable and do the job 100%. I like being able to walk around too.
