Article in Dutch: http://www.nieuwsblad.be/cnt/dmf20170221_02742607.

Short summary: (again) good news, step by step it's getting better after the news we received in December he was out of coma. Broeckx can not talk yet, but he understands everything (which is another step in the good direction and already much more than the expectations were short after the accident).

Quote from DS Sergeant: "I began to talk about the upcoming season, and asked which Lotto rider could win a classic. When I said Wellens and Roelandts, he nodded. When my wife said Frederik Frison, he had to laugh and shook convincingly his head".

Re: Stig Broeckx in coma after serious crash involving motor

Beautiful but extremely emotional story about the recent encounter between Loïc Chetout and Stig. Chetout saved Stig's life after the crash by stabilizing his head in his lap for over an hour. Definitely worth the effort to translate. The original story is in Dutch but only accessible for members.

I can read the spanish one but not the dutch as I don't have a subscription to Het Niewsblad Plus.

However, it is a brilliant read. Here's to hoping he makes a full recovery and can live a normal life as possible. Whether he races his bike again or not, what he has done so far is brilliant. He hasn't been the first Lotto Soudal rider to end up in a coma after a crash during a race. Kris Boeckmans ended up in a medically induced one, but it was a coma all the same. He has recovered and hopefully Stig does too.

Another update about Stig Broeckx on Sporza. Source: http://sporza.be/cm/sporza/wielrennen/1.2975877

"The progress of Stig Broeckx in the last months is miraculous"

Stig Broeckx rides every day 30 minutes on his home trainer. He even tries to 'cheat' by resetting the time, in order to ride longer than 30 minutes. :) However, no prognosis can be made if he ever will be able to cycle again. "But everyone can agree that his progression is wondrous".

His family hopes he can build up an independent life again. In one of the next weeks, he hopes that he can go back home again. But of course, he has to go everyday to the rehabilitation center again to work on his comeback.

Good news.
