You still think he is less impressivr this year? After his attack I changed my mind to be honest (he looks as dominant as last year). He was probably toying with Pidcock in Sante Marie

I do, yeah. I don't see a logic reason to play with an opponent like that. Unless he's been utterly arrogant.

I think it's simply that Pidcock got considerably better this year and had still enough in tank to stay with Pog in Sante Marie but didn't have it anymore in the finale. Pogacar's performance was very impressive. In absolute terms maybe worse than last year but considering the circumstances it was as impressive as in 2024.
The interviewer said fastest ever, so it's hard to see where Pog wasn't better. Do agree that Pog wasn't toying with Pidcock on Sante Marie, as everyone in the world knew what Pog was going to do there, and Pidcock CLEARLY rode to not get dropped at that point. His entire race hinged on that sector, and I don't think he was getting dropped by anyone there, this year. If Pog did fastest ever, that means Tom was almost as fast as Pog last year.

Pogacar was objectively fewer than Evenepoel and Yates on Jabel Hafeet as well, he's either fewer than last year or perhaps he's working on things other than climbing ahead of MSR/Flanders.

Saying today was more impressive than an 80km solo last year does seem like copium.

I think his 3rd in that flat tt on UAE's average 2025 setup was his best performance of the season given how small he is.

Maybe to have a partner helping him until the last hour of racing.

If he doesn't want to be alone for so long he doesn't ask his team to kill it so early.
Much like on Jabel Hafeet. If he didn't want to test himself, he doesn't attack 7-8 kilometres away.

What you're saying doesn't make sense. Why would he put his team on destruction mode unless he wanted to stay alone?

I’m 100% sure he isn’t as good as last year. Doesn’t mean he won’t be better somewhere in the season, but last season at Strade he was already better than he is now.

The time he took on Pidcock and Wellens isn’t impressive, because where was Pidcock last week? And Wellens already rode himself to *** as a domestique today. Even taking into account he fell. He also doesn’t need to be as good now anyway, he can easily win it

Race conditions were very different last year and he crashed quite hard so it makes no sense to compare this performance with last years.

Great performance by Pidcock today. And he wasn't afraid of Pogacar. He could have easily just let Pogacar go, stayed in the chasing group and ridden a very safe second place home, but he tried to challenge Pogacar. Chapeau. There's no one else in the peloton who would have beaten Pidcock today.
