Seixas is a monster, it's a distinct possibility that in 10 years Pogacar's reign will look quaint in comparison.
Yes, in that way, Pogačar should have won by two more minutesWas even worse than usual--we didn't any of the other riders on the climb.
Surely no one has ever been in the same stratosphere at the same age.Seixas is a monster. Don't remember 19 year old rider as strong as he is.
I'm still surprised he can race after the broken ankle just 2 months ago??Better finish for Wout than I thought, earlier in the day. When he got dropped during Pog's attack, I thought he might DNF. Good to see some fire in him. Still, don't think a win is in the cards this spring.
I don't think you get dropped like that, if you're gifting. I think you just sit on the wheel, and then not sprint. Fact is, based on the time gap at the bottom, Seixas should have had the fastest time on the final climb. He closed to 1 minute, exactly. (Yes, I understand Pog was soft pedaling because he could). I think Del Toro would have done anything to be 2nd he just didn't have the legs, and Seixas was the clear 2nd best rider in the race today.I don't think Del Toro contested 2nd - he knew Paul deserved it
I want to see him in a 3 week race first - it's a very different animal in the tall mountains in week 3.Seixas is a monster, it's a distinct possibility that in 10 years Pogacar's reign will look quaint in comparison.
If he keeps improving, he will catch Pogacar even before Pogacar's decline.Seixas is a monster. Don't remember 19 year old rider as strong as he is.
I thought its pretty clear Del Toro didn't contend the 2nd place....So Teddy wins after a 80 km solo, surprise! Congrats on a great performance, it looks like his dominance will continue for another year.
Also big congrats to Seixas, what a ride! A monster is born. He's performed salto di qualita recently. He's not just the future but the present already. Del Toro had a big tactical advantage but was dropped, others were outclassed at the end.
You spelled "couldn't" wrongI thought its pretty clear Del Toro didn't contend the 2nd place....
we see images of it nowI'd second that.
Also looked like it, when he talked to Pogacar at the Finish.
Let's wait for his interview.I thought its pretty clear Del Toro didn't contend the 2nd place....
Seixas is yet to show his level on cobblesIt would be pretty hilarious if Pogacar retired in 2030/31 as the clear GOAT, only for Seixas to instantly dwarf him performance/domination wise. Extremely grim in terms of competitiveness, but hilarious.
...he's 19...I think there's an easy explanation for that...Seixas is yet to show his level on cobbles
If it was a flat run-in yes, but why would you bother going deep on that final climb to stay on the wheel if you have no intention to overtake? Might as well cruise to the finish.I don't think you get dropped like that, if you're gifting. I think you just sit on the wheel, and then not sprint. You are right. I just say it's too soon to say he is the new Pogacar. By any means I'm discrediting him. He is a top5 rider in the world right now and probably the best GT rider next year (or in 2 years)....he's 19...I think there's an easy explanation for that...
Maybe, but we can't actually know. The gap Seixas got was massive, and still, based on the gap to Pog at the bottom, he climbed faster than anyone in the race (admitting that Pog didn't have to)If it was a flat run-in yes, but why would you bother going deep on that final climb to stay on the wheel if you have no intention to overtake? Yeah, saved his legs for T-A. Pretty honorable as he had just marked Seixas in the second half of the race.I thought its pretty clear Del Toro didn't contend the 2nd place....
Crowd today was bigger than one has ever seen on the last climbs today in this race. I think it is doing just fine.I mean, I can't blame Pogacar for reaching his monstrous level, but another year like this ain't good for this beautiful sport.
It's boring. Even Kelly was willing to be honest about it today. It's stupid boring, with Seixas being the only interesting thing to happen.Crowd today was bigger than one has ever seen on the last climbs today in this race. I think it is doing just fine.
