Strange feeling post effort

Hi all,

I pushed out a massive effort yesterday of around 2.5 minutes and for about 20 minutes afterwards I felt pretty strange.

My wouth was watering as if I was going to be sick (though I didn't feel nauseous), I had no energy and my throat was pretty hoarse. My heart rate was normal. Once the feeling had passed I got my energy back and continued on with a pretty solid ride.

This has happened to me before on occasion, but only after a particularly hard, relatively short effort.

Any science heads out there fancy having a go at explaining this?

Cheers.
Pat

The unscientific version is that is how I felt when I rode 2-4km pursuits on the track. You must have been doing it right!

I love that feeling even though it might scare you a bit when you're not used to it.

Usually you would get that feeling when you do interval training. You should see stars and get weak arms too :)

How quickly did your HR reduce to 'normal' - and was that your typical 'resting HR', or just the HR you would expect after a big effort?
Do you think anything was unusual about how your HR reacted?
